Boehner’s plan is to let the Senate strip out the “defund” provision as they’re expected to do, and counter with a 1-year delay on everything related to the ACA, which is more likely to pass. It may actually be the superior plan anyway, as “defund” only covers items under the CR umbrella, and the individual subsidies scheduled to kick on on Jan 1 are not included in that - to me, that’s the part that must be stopped because once people start getting transfer payments, history shows that you’ll never get the program to stop.

He’s all we have right now. Apparently Boehner is facing sufficient pressure to focus his mind on this. At least for now, we need to encourage him.

Once they spend enough time in Washington, they ARE the same. They all belong to the Re-Election Party, dedicated to the enrichment of its members at taxpayer expense. They are all owned by special interests. Term limits is the only answer. Primary challenges help in the short run but the system corrupts them faster than we can remove them. The system itself must be overhauled.

THIS!

Not only does Boehner face this within the House, but House members are trying to influence Senate GOP to vote against cloture.

Everytime he comes out and says something like this you know he’s going to cave on that specific point.

If Boehner can stand tall and deliver on this rhetoric, he deserves the praise and support he receives for this act.

Just as each and every legislative act he undertakes deserves scrutiny and appropriate reaction.

Hold the line, Mr. Speaker!!! Follow the clear, unwavering direction provided by your constituents, and the rest of the United States!

Ok, I have a question, because I am totally confused on all of this. If we “defund” obamacare, do the automatic things set to start up Jan 1 still happen? Do the tax increases that we already have, stop(haha). The 1 year delay that Boehner is thinking of, isn’t that the same thing that the Dem’s wanted to do, so we are playing right in to their hands. To me, the ONLY thing to do to make this totally go away is to go straight for Repeal and accept nothing else. If we just defund it, it’s still there isn’t it? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I

The way I understand it, "defund" only covers those things that fall under the continuing resolution. It would not stop individual mandates, subsidies, or any of the taxes (though it might affect enforcement issues).

So, in this respect, the "defund" plan doesn't work. (I still support Cruz because of the politics of it -- force the 'rats to "own" Obamacare over and over and over...)

"Delay" pushes everything back a year, basically playing a stalling game until the GOP can (in theory) gain enough control to really force a showdown with the White House in the 2014 midterms. It really doesn't affect the political optics of Obamacare much because the worst of it is the uncertainty factor, which will still be hanging in the air.

"Repeal" should, of course, be the ultimate goal, but that's unlikely to happen until 2017 at the earliest, unless a landslide in the mid-terms gives the GOP enough leverage to force Obama into massive concessions.

Glad Boehner found the courage to do what's right. Good on him for finally remembering why he's there

We need to let them (the House GOP) know when they get it right, as loudly and as vehemently as we let them know when they get it wrong. And this is the RIGHT thing to do.

God bless Ted Cruz for taking his stand and shining a flood light on this. You KNOW the Old Boys club is hating him for it.

What was that saying? "I'd Rather be despised by the despicable than admired by the admirable?"

"I do not expect (a shutdown) to happen," Boehner said.

Well now. That's a darn shame. I'm all for the government "shutting down" if it will stop them from destroying out nation.

When did Americans start becoming such cowards? Seems to me most people are afraid of their own shadows. A bunch of impotent, pear-headed, loud mouthed, cowering little chihuahuas yapping forth one complaint after another as they hide in their little corner of the world unwilling to do what is necessary to make the changes we need to make to get back to the basics that made this country what it was before these liberal nutjobs got control. Small government is what this nation was founded with. As with everything else in life, when things are not working out the way they are supposed to, get back to the basics.

PERIOD!

They should just shut the whole dagnabit Leviathan monster down.

Another strategy is to only fund a few essensual things of government like the military, highways, the things that people really need to survive that why the Democrats and the Media can't say that the Republicans have shut the government down.
