Posted on 09/26/2013 11:56:27 PM PDT by Jim Robinson
Republican tensions grew Thursday as Tea Party-aligned senators rejected a bid to speed up the vote on a bill to fund the government while defunding ObamaCare, with one senior lawmaker accusing his colleagues of posturing -- as the chances of a government shutdown increased.
The flurry of activity occurred late Thursday afternoon on the Senate floor. With lawmakers facing a Sept. 30 deadline to pass a spending bill, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid tried to get approval to hold key votes on Thursday, in order to give the House more time to consider the legislation.
But Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, objected, along with Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas. That puts off the next vote until Friday.
Their complaints prompted a tense encounter on the floor with Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., who suggested the only reason they want to wait until Friday is because they want to turn the vote into a show for supporters.
"This is confusing to me," Corker said. "I'm understanding the reason we're waiting is that y'all have sent out releases and emails and you want everybody to be able to watch. It just doesn't seem to me that that's in our nation's interest."
Cruz later said: "I think it is unfortunate that any member of the United States Senate should want our votes to occur outside of the view of the American people."

Danged if he nailed it again!
“I think it is unfortunate that any member of the United States Senate should want our votes to occur outside of the view of the American people.”
Isn’t that the way the original ACA went??
The light is now shining on RINO capitulation to Dingy Harry's tactics.
We have the anti-Romney idiots to thank alright.
It’s so obvious Corker and the rinos do not want to vote on this bill either way. They have no principles to guide them.
Woo hoo! Go, Boehner GO!! Hold the line!! Defund obamacare!!
What going to happen if October 1st arrives, there is not CR...and the sky doesn’t fall?
The RINOs will be in a very awkward position!
The ONLY one to blame for losing the election
was the IMPOSTOR from Utah/Calif/Mich/MA/NH,
and that is the cowardly, conservative-backstabber,
and imposer of gay marriage AND ObamaCARE,
who is none other than Mr. Willard-the-RAT Romney.
Well you could blame the Republican Party for nominating him. The large donors for financing him.
Corker has already proved he’s a jerk and worse, although he still has time to jump on board the CRUZ Missile!
The last two "S" elections should be proof enough! It's a one party system.
Shut that Obamacare down. Now.
Wouldn’t that be something if Boehner actually earns the affectionate title, “Mr. Speaker?!
Go, Mr. Speaker, GO!!
For God and country!!
It continues to amaze me how low Fox News has sunk.
And by the way, this column - - I mean "report" - - didn't even note Cruz's best comeback line to that coward, Corker:
Why is Majority Leader Harry Reid going to vote the same way youre proposing to vote? Why is every Democrat in this chamber going to vote the way youre proposing to vote, said Cruz.
That’s a great picture. Cruz looks downright presidential to me. By the way, have you gotten a load of some of the “pundits” already questioning Cruz’s qualifications for president because of his “limited experience”? I don’t remember those same scumbags mentioning that Ubama was only in the senate barely long enough for a cup of coffee, and didn’t do jack squat.
Gosh, I have to take back a whole lot of previous comments, but I’d happily eat those nasty words!
Maybe, just maybe, John Boehner is getting tired of being characterized as the ‘weeper of the House’ who always caves and gets rolled?
Or maybe Ted Cruz made a huge impression on him. I’d like to think that Senator Cruz is the primary reason: Boehner watched a true American patriot, freedom fighter, stand on principle for “God, freedom and Country” and something clicked.
We’ll keep watch and we’ll also keep praying.

All the blanks are ?
Bet Corker needed help walking away after that one.
If Willard were POTUS, he’d be first in line to sign up at the commie -care exchange
Go Johnny! Go, go, go!
Good Morning, RedMDer!
Good morning. I’m hoping to get a little more rest before work. LOL!
He just doesn’t want to end up like Tom Foley is all.
Re election is all that matters to these types, but no matter, here’s to hoping that he sticks it to the commies good.
Thank you so much, MM!
Heading back upstairs.
Whatever his motive and reasons, just do the right thing!
Stand strong and don’t cave this time!!
Going right now!
Getting back to sleep is another matter!
Pray for us....lol.
Sleep is for the weak!
I still don’t trust Boehner, but this is a good start. His feet need to be held to the fire..
“....turn the vote into a show for supporters. ....”
well, uh, actually... that is 80% of the people!!!! including a few unions!!!!
And I thought Democrats were out of touch. Is this quote in context? If so, it REALLY reflects poorly on Corker.
I said yesterday that it would be great if Corker went after Obama with the same vigor....of course, maybe he does but the media won't cover that news.
Tea Party Senators rock! Keep up the good work gentlemen (and ladies)!
I'm afraid the linguini will take over the spine that Boner seems to be showing. I'm afraid the cheap suit will fold before Boner keeps this (uncharacteristically) show of a spine! (Short) Time will tell!
Open your eyes! McConnell, Boehner, Cantor, McCarthy - that's what "real Republicans" ARE.
“Cruz later said: “I think it is unfortunate that any member of the United States Senate should want our votes to occur outside of the view of the American people.”
OF THE PEOPLE... BY THE PEOPLE... FOR THE PEOPLE
“This is confusing to me,” Corker said. “I’m understanding the reason we’re waiting is that y’all have sent out releases and emails and you want everybody to be able to watch. It just doesn’t seem to me that that’s in our nation’s interest.”
OF CORRUPTION, BY CORRUPTION... FOR CORRUPTION
Yes shut that Obamacare down and more. Shut down education, EPA, IRS, HUD, the fed, ...shut it all except the courts and the military.
That was the money line and the "ah ha" moment. Cruz is laying bare the cynicism, hypocrisy and theatre that is the US Senate. I like this one. He has mucho el laton cojone's.
...and rockheads like you.
You didn't vote for the IMPOSTOR, you were too pure, and you let us know all about it.
Those of us who compared Romney to obama saw what we had to do, but the purists saw too much rino in Romney and stayed at home.
No bitching from you about obama, your vote for him is loud and clear.
You voted for obama, and we have to live with your decision.
#10 - looking very Reaganesque there....
Methinks the poll numbers had more to do with boehners “come to Jesus” moments than anything else.
Some day the Lord is going to bring total judgment down on Sodom on the Potomac. When He does, even every stone will melt with the heat the Lord will pour out on that cess pool of sin. There are so very, very, very few decent people inside that stinking beltway. When the Lord pulls the plug on Sodom, it is goodbye, so long, farewell, you are out of here and on the way to the Lake of Fire via the Great White Throne Seat of Judgment for the lost.
