Boehner: No Funding Bill Without 1-Year Obamacare Delay

Speaker John Boehner said Thursday the GOP-controlled House will not accept a temporary spending bill from the Democratic Senate if it is shorn clean of a tea party plan to "defund Obamacare."

"I don't see that happening," Boehner told reporters.

At the same time, the Ohio Republican said House GOP leaders would unveil legislation to lift the government's borrowing cap, but only if the new health care law is delayed for a year. He defended that measure's relatively modest spending cuts even as some rank-and-file conservatives pressed for more.

"It does not cut spending significantly. It does not fix the problem," Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Ala., said of the debt ceiling package. He said he was undecided about whether to support it. "We need to significantly cut federal government spending, or long-term have a balanced budget constitutional amendment," he said.

Obamacare: Massive New Rules Revealed for 2013

Pressure is building on fractious House Republicans as a partial government shutdown looms at midnight Monday if a bitterly-divided Congress can't send a temporary spending bill to President Barack Obama on time.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid immediately rejected Boehner's proposal. Meanwhile, the Senate trudged ahead toward a Friday vote on stripping the defund Obamacare provision from the House-passed stopgap funding bill.

I give Harry and 0bummer 24 hours to accept Boner’s “sadly regressive proposal” while they snicker all the way through victory in 2014.

If you’re following that route,
the best thing to do would be to pass a condition
requiring implementation as passed,

NO WAIVERS.

Xzins, you said it better than I could. Our gop leadership, if such an honorific could be bestowed on them, doesn’t have the spine for a fight.

Most likely it had to do with the adoption of children from a foreign country; many times this can only occur through shady means.

Well. That’s encouraging. Even temporary would be good.

Wouldn't a more winning strategy be to keep the individual mandate, and let people experience firsthand how awful Obamacare will be? I'm not wishing misery on anyone, but wouldn't this give the Republicans more of a leg to stand on come November of next year?

Delay gives the RATs cover for 2014.

The Republicans have some momentum on this right now.

Take advantage of the momentum, don't throw it away.

The courts, John Roberts was black mailed once, he'll be blackmailed again.
The courts are a dead end as they are now, we found that out the hard way.

To ensure democrat victories in congress?

This man’s wimpiness is a danger or is it complicity. The Uniparty of big government where no one really works a lot?

ALL of the above are better than implementation

I agree with you.

I wish that they could have at least pressed the Senate past cloture, and force all the cringing Dems to stand up and vote for Obamacare again.

But we have too many McCains and McClones in the Senate for that.

Next best is to do what the Democrats usually do, which is kill this thing with a thousand cuts. Bring the horror stories home to the constituents day after day, bring the costs home, the exemptions and carve-outs, the LIES from Obama...

If Boehner is coming out in favor of something like this, it means the phone lines are burning up. It's not going to stop. This fight will go on, day after day, and we can win it.

And NONE of it would have happened, not a whimper, except for Ted Cruz.

but only if the new health care law is delayed for a year.

Not good enough Boner, no where near good enough.

Exactly. One year delay doesn't mean much. I'd like to see all exemptions removed, and alter it to implement it as mandatory for all government employees and their families, including Congress, for three years before other Americans are made to sign up for it. Let them taste this poison first.

I keep hearing that “implementation” is the best strategy, but I keep thinking that’s what we were fighting against for the last 3 years.

People here keep jauntily saying “THEY should feel pain.”

Are you not part of “THEM” or are you government employees or people so wealthy you don’t have to worry about this?

Frankly, I don’t want to feel pain from Obamacare. Put it off and use the time to kill it.

Everybody in this country is scared of it and hates it, and the figures that have come out just today (even from Federal agencies) about the additional cost are terrifying.

“Delay is third best”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I think delay is what is gonna save our bacon. And I mean a 60-90 day delay.
Here’s why. In the next 60 days MILLIONS of employees are going to see the health care plan options for next year. Employers will submit group health care options from Humana and Blue Cross and whoever. And the premiums associated with those plans.
And they’ll see the confusing and expensive ObamaCare Marketplace options. And they will freak out. The (bleep) will be hitting the fan so hard, that every congress critter from here to the beltway will be told to DEFUND.
I absolutely agree. None of this would have come about without Ted Cruz. Mike Lee, too.
Cruz has led.
The GOP-E doesn't know the meaning of the word.
Forget that.
Too much political maneuvering
They need to get rid of this thing or let it go forward and let the chips fall
Who cares at this point what happens as a result of this move and that move. Ted Cruz doesn’t
The party of losers are losers and if they don’t take on Cruz/ Reagan tactics they will continue to lose, handing our country over to the socialists
Repeal it dont fund it and then fix our broken medical care system in a well thought out manner
No delay
