A pair of British artists have created this stunning installation of 9,000 silhouettes on a D-Day Landings beach to mark international Peace Day.
The project, named, 'The Fallen' is a tribute to the civilians, German forces and Allies who lost their lives during the Operation Neptune landing on June 6, 1944. The design was the brainchild of Jamie Wardley, 33, and Andy Moss, 50.
Together with a team of volunteers the pair travelled to Arromanches beach, Normandy, to create the silhouettes, which were individually drawn into the sand.

Please note, no FRENCH military casualties are commemorated.
We can also keep in mind the over a million 2nd Lieutenants who died in the Soviet Forces fighting the Germans on the other side of Europe.

Yeah...I tend to agree with you. Many of the Wehrmacht were not Nazis...even a number of the Wehrmacht generals could not stand them. The hardcore went into the SS and other groups.

I guess Omaha beach, part of Operation Overlord, also had the name Operation Neptune.
Oh, I found it. Neptune was the seaborne portion of the assault. Overlord was the landings.
I’m not angry with you, but don’t come prattling at me about troops occupying a modern Western nation killing my fellow citizens and allies, as if they’re all part of our one big happy family. No they weren’t. Dead soldiers are not all on the same side. If they were, they wouldn’t be dead.
You don’t honor the aggressor troops, by lumping them in with the good men sent in to stop them, who sacrificed their lives.
Our own citizens and our own allies that died on Normandy beach, or at any other location deserve better than to be lumped in with those who died in the effort to kill them.
I may be the only guy that thinks along these lines, but that’s how I see it.
Inaccurate. Neptune was the landing segment of Overlord. Both took place on June 6.
