Pope Francis is significantly upping the Catholic Church's buzz quotient, but another congregation is hoping to take America (and other countries) by storm. Like Methodism and Episcopalianism, the Sunday Assembly is a British import, but with a difference: This church doesn't believe in God. It's motto is "live better, help often, and wonder more." An atheist "religion or church" seems the ultimate oxymoron. The cohesion that facilitates any organized worship of a deity is one based on a belief system anchored in an eternal existence beyond the here and now, one that transcends life here on Earth in immortal beneficence. How is that going to pan out among those who say with absolute certitude in the denial of any such realm?

As science itself is wont to say, you can not prove that which allegedly does not exist.

They already are. They are already the established state religion in Marxist controlled countries including, to a large extent, the U.S. of A.

They are already doing that. They have the “We are right and you are wrong” evangelism down pat.

Didn’t Scientology already cover this? Or does Scientology qualify because of a belief in superior alien beings that are coming back for us?

How can we distinguish this new “athiest church” from some of the other ones we already got? (Except its more honest about what it stands for)

Next they’ll be evangelizing.

I’m all for this, they should start in one of the 57 countries that Obama has mentioned...

They'll be more pious and judgmental.

... ‘get to their atheist heaven’... that sounds like get into my touche heaven to me.
IT would be a nice drug business front.

From the looks of that video, the atheist “services” resemble the cracked “emerging church” services that various protestant denominations run, originally to appeal to Gen X. I think that that FAD is beyond its sell-by date.

If you don’t believe in God, you might as well sleep late on Sunday morning, have brunch, and read the newspaper. No need to clean yourself up, get dressed, and drive somewhere. Phooey!

Me neither. But they are a "non-proffit" religious group none the less.

This is a leftist ideological group. Think about it. To bind people together in a religion requires a doctrine, a core set of beliefs that everyone in the group believes in.
Atheism provides no such framework, since everything is subjective and opinion-driven. So in other words, this will be a left wing advocacy group.

I can see atheists dividing on this. Some considering it to be a brilliant way to fill the void they feel, others considering it patently stupid.
