Three teenagers were charged for the murder of a homeless Hoboken man who authorities claim was the victim of a violent game called “knockout.”
The boys, two 13-year-olds and a 14-year-old, allegedly followed Ralph Erick Santiago, 46, on Third St. before one of the teens threw a punch at the victim’s head on Sept. 10, prosecutors said.
Santiago fell back from the blow and collapsed onto an iron fence, where he died after his neck was wedged between two posts, police said.
“He was just a loving person, cared about everybody, very spiritual,” his cousin, who declined to give his name, told CBS News. “And it just wasn’t deserved.”
The three suspects, who were not identified because they are juveniles, turned themselves in after police released surveillance pictures of them near the scene.
They were being held without bail at the Hudson County Youth Detention Center after they were arraigned on murder charges Friday.
Investigators believe the teens, who live in Jersey City, were playing a violent game that involves randomly attacking innocent pedestrians in an effort to knock the victim out with one punch.
Relatives told the Jersey Journal that Santiago, a former break dancer and gymnast, was disabled after a similar attack in the Bronx nearly three decades ago.
Santiago was walking with his then-wife, Tracy Squillini, when she told the paper he was attacked outside a public housing complex.
The brutes repeatedly pounded Santiago’s head into the sidewalk before they left him lying unconscious on the street, Squillini said.
The attack put Santiago in a month-long coma, and left him permanantly brain-damaged. He underwent years of physical therapy and needed medication to prevent seizures, Squillini said.
Santiago and Squillini later divorced, but the couple shared a son together.
“I loved him. Not in that romantic way anymore, but because he was truly my friend,” Squillini said. Santiago last spoke to his son a year ago, when the disabled man was evicted from his apartment.
Squillini said the family was relieved that the arrests had been made, but she wants to see justice served.
“Until there’s a conviction, I’m not going to feel that closure,” she told CBS News.

To say they lack a moral compass would be as big an understatement as Neville Chamberlain saying “I think Mr. Hitler is up to something”. I have really tried, hoping that I would be proven wrong, but I can’t see them ever changing their penchant for wanton violence of the lowest order of savagery and base uncivilized behavior. They lie about things that don’t matter, can’t be trusted to accomplish the simplest of tasks, raise their children like feral cats, often referring to toddlers as “motherfvcker” in public. They embrace cultural stupidity as a sacred birthright, and emit foul food odors as they conduct picnics in public transportation. A sad reality of their pathetic state of affairs is that most of this obnoxious behavior is the result of 50 years of white liberal guilt manifested through the Great Society programs of LBJ. The best thing for white America is to cut our losses. Quit trying to bend over backwards to prove our good intentions, since they are not reciprocated in any way, shape or form. They should gradually be marginalized in our society, with the goal of establishing reservations for them in rural areas, far away from where they could do further damage and annoy us further with their loud, obnoxious, juvenile behavior. Taking them seriously on any appreciable level is a fool’s errand.
I don’t think it’s the majority. It’s the bottom 20-25%..the black underclass. If they could be eliminated from the American scene, the rest of the black community was rise by their absence. But how to do it? My solution, sterilization of anyone with an IQ under 80 and anybody applying for welfare, has been attacked on this board as eugenics. Many people pretend it’s not a genetics problem when the evidence overwhelmingly suggests it is. Get tough on black criminals, sterilize the bottom 20-25%, and black Americans will start competing with the rest of the country.

The welfare sows and their “golden ticket” bastards can’t live in rural areas; they would literally freeze to death with the first winter. They have to live somewhere in which a large (expensive) staff of white people tend to their every basic need.

This is happening to a growing number of whites in that demographic as well, as the WASP culture is further erased from the national consciousness.

White guilt is a myth; look at how libs treat blacks as pariahs, and you realize that from the start it was a vote-buying scheme.

This is already done with the urban welfare reservations (hives); this victim died because of train access.
