Obama Renews Push for Gun Control Legislation Sunday, September 22, 2013 07:13 AM

Days after mass shootings in both of his hometowns, President Barack Obama urged his most ardent supporters Saturday "to get back up and go back at it" and help push stalled legislation out of Congress so "dangerous people" won't get their hands on guns."

"We can't rest until all of our children can go to school or walk down the street free from the fear that they will be struck down by a stray bullet," Obama said in a keynote speech to the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's annual awards dinner.

Legislation calling for expanded background checks failed to clear the Senate earlier this year despite a strong push by Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, people whose loved ones had been killed by gunfire and other gun-control advocates.

The bill was part of a package of measures Obama promised to put the full weight of his office behind after 20 first-graders and six educators were killed last December in a mass shooting at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn.

I’d say having that base unarmed is tyranny.

Obama how about you stop going after American guns, and instead go after American jobs.

Just saying.

Bring back American jobs.

Bringing out all the same fallacies again, especially the “stray bullet” fallacy. It’s not law-abiding citizens firing the “stray bullets”, Mr. Obama.

Obama pushes for more gun control at home while we arm "freedom fighters" in the ME and Africa? Just where are the terrorists getting their guns anyway? Hasn't the Egyptian military been driving the Islamic militants out of Egypt? Is anyone in the media going to sort it out?

Interesting that Obama keeps asking for more gun control at home. How about less lax security clearances for minorities of questionable sanity? How about a conversation about the negative impacts of the trash that passes as mainstream culture in the US today? How about social fabric unraveling, and maybe easy, free access to birth control and abortion is making that situation worse? How many shootings in places lke Chicago are by people who have their guns legally?

Obama's dialect and priorities seem totally disconnected from the world around him. It's like reality should change so his priorities apply.

Say what you will about President You Didn’t Build That, you’ve got to admit he and his propaganda operators are pretty skilled at concocting distractions from his numerous, abject failures.

"We can't rest until all of our children can go to school or walk down the street free from the fear that they will be struck down by a stray bullet,"

And the quickest way to accomplish that is to remove all gun restrictions IAW the 2nd Amendment and post neighborhoods as armed and ready to kill any and all that would endanger their children. After Katrina, I put up a sign at the end of the road that stated that we are an armed community and looters would be shot with no chance at mercy - a "visiting" Florida Trooper drove by, noted the sign and my .357 on my hip (before MS allowed open carry), touched the brim of his hat and drove on. He was probably sure that he wouldn't have to come to the "rescue" of our area. There was some sporadic looting, but none in our area which is really set up to make it easy for looters - big, wooded properties with privacy and back field access and lots of space between homes, many of which were not occupied for up to 6 months.

Citing shootings, Obama says must ‘go back at’ gun-control push

Jeff Mason Reuters

10:13 p.m. CDT, September 21, 2013

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama urged supporters on Saturday to “go back at it” and pursue gun-control measures after mass shootings in Washington and Chicago in the past week put the spotlight back onto the problem of gun violence in the United States.

Obama made passing tough gun laws a top priority after a gunman killed 20 children and six adults at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut, in December, stunning the nation.

“As long as there are those who fight to make it as easy as possible for dangerous people to get their hands on guns, then we’ve got to work as hard as possible for the sake of our children ... to do more work to make it harder,” he said to applause.
