Cruz says he would filibuster to defund Obamacare
The Daily Caller ^ | 9-19-2013 | Alexis Levinson

WASHINGTON — Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz said Thursday that he would use any means necessary, including a filibuster, to help ensure passage of a continuing resolution that defunds Obamacare.

“I will do everything necessary and anything possible to defund Obamacare,” Cruz said at a press conference with House Republicans on the CR that the House is set to pass Friday that continues to fund the government through the end of the year and defunds Obamacare.

Asked if he would filibuster, Cruz said he would use “any procedural means necessary.”

Cruz drew fire Thursday, after the House plan was announced, for suggesting that there was no chance the bill would get through in the Democratic controlled Senate.

“Harry Reid will no doubt try to strip the defund language from the continuing resolution, and right now he likely has the votes to do so,” Cruz said in a statement Thursday. “At that point, House Republicans must stand firm, hold their ground, and continue to listen to the American people.”

Several House Republicans accused him of giving up the fight, but Cruz deflected questions about that criticism Thursday, saying, “it is very easy in Washignton to make this about personalities, to make this about people. This is not about any of us, this is about the American people.”

Sorry, I was being silly, actually, there is a stat for the longest filibusters:

The record for the longest filibuster goes to U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond of South Carolina, who spoke for 24 hours and 18 minutes against the Civil Rights Act of 1957, according to U.S. Senate records.

what to talk about for 24 hours straight?

They could read the Bible. What a breath of fresh air that would be.

“How about 46 out of 46 votes to defund!”

Wish my spineless freshman senator (toomey) would take a lesson from Mr. Cruz, instead he crawls under the sheets with schumer.

Smucky Schumer said if “mainstream republicans would band together with democrats” they could make the right wing irrelevant. So, I guess he means if the rinos will go ahead and switch to the democrat party they’ll have a super majority. And, sadly, he’s right.

“what to talk about for 24 hours straight? just read the damn obamacare bill...”

By the time he was done reading it, the entire congress will vote to defund.

Palin/Gohmert: 2016!

What? No Ted Cruz on that dream ticket of mine?

Here's why. I think given his relatively young age, his vigor, his intelligence and his understanding of the Constitution, Ted Cruz ought to be appointed as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court during the upcoming Palin administration. Imagine decade after decade after decade of his leadership in that pivotal position. I can envision Roe v. Wade getting scrapped and the 14th Amendment losing its manufactured anchor baby provision.

So I'll echo the boss with "Go Ted Go!". Go all the way to the top at 1 First Street, NE, Washington, DC 20543.

And , by the way, Rand Paul has now revealed his true nature as this thread shows. His utterance of the words, "What a tragedy it would have been that America wouldn't have gotten to see Barack Obama as a leader" shows that Rand is as crazy as his father.

Cruz is another lying sack of crap. The GOP has no intention of stopping o-care. Never did and never will, and Cruz knows it. It’s all hot air and Cruz plays us like fools.

I wish they would filibuster and read it. However...

“At 200 words per minute, the Obamacare Regulations would take 180 hours to read. That’s seven and a half days of non-stop reading; it’s four and a half 40-hour business weeks.”

I don’t know for certain, but when Rand Paul filibustered earlier in the year, I recall hearing that he was not allowed to sit down and he could not hand off to anyone.
