House GOP to push CR defunding Obamacare

House Republican leadership will attempt to pass a government-funding bill with language that defunds Obamacare, according to senior aides.

The bill, called a continuing resolution, will likely come to the House floor late this week, roughly two weeks before funding for the federal government expires on Oct. 1.

The attempt to defund Obamacare, which has almost no chance of being enacted into law, signals that Speaker John Boehner, Majority Leader Eric Cantor and Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy felt the need to take a sharp turn to the right in order to pass a government funding bill through the House. The House GOP leadership’s preferred plan - to attach a non-binding rider to defund the law - was rejected by several dozen rank-and-file Republican lawmakers, in an embarrassing setback for Boehner, Cantor and McCarthy.

“No decisions have been made, or will be made, until House Republican Members meet and talk tomorrow,” Michael Steel, a spokesman for Boehner, told POLITICO.

The Republican leadership must put on a pretense and must put on show, before they push through the next debt ceiling increase and or amnesty.

I have a Pennsylvania name for liberal RINO’s making conservative noises right before the election year.

Forcing someone to act as though they have a backbone doesn’t mean that they have one.

I’ll get a little more excited when this bill is actually on the floor, but until they’re lowering Obamacare into a hole in the ground Boner and Co. have proven themselves to be liberal politicians first and American conservatives second.

Obama is really scared of this move. The Tea Party has him rattled. He’s getting all wee-wee’d up!

It’s the only way to stop the train wreck Obamacare will cause.

Wait until the last day of the current CR then send it to the Senate. Immediately after getting it to the Senate then the House needs to recess.

It funds everything except obamacare.

there is no need to shut down gov’t - just a need to shut down obamacare.

Agree with you. I’ll believe it when I see it. Boehner and Cantor are no doubt looking for an escape hatch.

That said, I do think this is winnable. The polls are running against Obamacare and Republicans seem to be gaining some momentum against it. This is the time and place to fight this battle.

RE: there is no need to shut down gov’t - just a need to shut down obamacare.

That is, of course, IF the Senate approves the CR. If not, well, the government in effects shuts down.

It remains to be seen as to WHICH PARTY will get the blame if the shutdown happens...

The election is over a year away and I guarantee the Rats can't holdout more than 3 months. After about 2 months, the Rats will be trying to negotiate just a delay in Obamacare and it will probably be a deal the GOP will have to take.

Senate Democrats will move to strip the Obamacare language - and potentially change other items in the bill like the expiration date for funding, and the overall price tag. The House would likely then have to approve a Democrat-approved government funding bill, complete with Obamacare funding, as the nation on the brink of a government shutdown

When the government gets shut down as the result of a Democrat action, or in action, the Republicans are not without options and if they resort to clever stagecraft they can seize the initiative. They can pass a new continuing resolution every day and every day call a press conference telling the public they just funded the government again, of course, without Obamacare. Let the public understand through these public demonstrations that it is the Republicans who are funding government and Democrats who are shutting it down.

Every day they can walk a new continuing resolution over to the Senate and present it to them. If they cannot get television coverage ( remember when the Democrats walked across to pass Obamacare?) Surely the Republicans can think of something to get themselves face time.

My recommendation, you ask? Speaker of the house Boehner should strip down to a breech cloth and walk the continuing resolution to the Senate. That will both gain him television exposure and reveal his tan lines.

***********

And that is EXACTLY the words that Republicans need to repeat over and over again. We are shutting down Obamacare, NOT the government.

Another companion argument should be that the country simply cannot afford the costly monstrosity of Obamacare. The debt has already reached an unsustainable level and must be reduced. Which would conveniently set the stage for future debt reduction moves.

I truly believe a huge majority of the people in this country would support defunding obamacare. What I don’t understand is why Boner and Cantor are afraid of not being re-elected when they know most people want it defunded.

Remember, “shutting down the Government” is fiction, it’s merely shutting down nonessential services like Federal Parks and Tourist attractions. Social Security and Medicare is guaranteed funding along with the military.

Why not have the true Republicans request a BINDING, updated, “Federal Financial Impact Statement” for 2012-2013 for Obama”care?”

It should take a month or two to complete, allow for a vote to delay Obama”care” for a year, and then show the great financial harm to our Economy that the Statement’s numbers will document.

Wharton, Stanford, Michigan and Princeton could also file their independent Financial Impact Statements to compare to the Office of Budget and the Congressional Budget Office Financial Impact Statements.

As B. Hussein is fond of saying: “We need to get all the facts first.”

It never ceases to amuse me at how the Obamamedia and his special interest groups will use the scare tactics. There was a commercial this morning claiming the GOP wants to shut down the Government and “Social Security checks maybe delayed”.
