“House Republicans will soon stage a vote on a budget bill — known as a continuing resolution (CR) — that both funds the government and defunds the Affordable Care Act...”

Sorry. They lost me at “STAGE.”

Until the vote is a DONE DEAL; it’s all just theatrics. Dog-and-pony; smoke-and-mirrors; hocus-pocus. SSDD.

Deliver me the body stone dead, and THEN I might begin to believe.

In this case, start a fight. And just for once, don’t put it off ‘til next time, don’t stall, don’t run, don’t change our mind, and don’t change the plan.

Measure how well the plan is working by how loudly the MSM squeals. Get in the talking head's faces and tell them if they weren't squealing we would know we missed the target.

Tell the talking heads it is an American thing and they could not possibly understand. We are fighting the MSM, not the democrats.

....”If there is no deal by then, the government will shut down all nonessential services.”

I think millions of us believe the shut down of “all non-essential services” is a GOOD thing!

Any compromise with the Marxist/fascist left is surrendering our rights.

Nope, we're getting them back. We can't win on this Jim. It will backfire. Now is the time to be magnanimous in victory and move the ball down the court.

We need the mushy middle to take the Senate and expand our hold on the house. Moreover we must come off as statesmen, working toward the greater good and compromising. We need to hold onto power for at least a generation to undo all the damage. To do that we need to compromise, but in our direction.

By simply suspending Obamacare we put the Democrats in a lose-lose position. They will look reckless if they don't compromise with us. If they do, then Obama is wounded and so are they. It's brilliant political strategy and brilliant policy.

You come out and say, "Look folks, we have real solutions to health care access and cost. We don't have the votes in the Senate to fix this right. Obamacare is killing our economy. We've compromised and just moved to suspend it for the time being to help the economy."

That puts the ball squarely in Obama and the Democrats court. What can the capon media do to protect them? Nothing.

We're winning and we need to recognize it. When was the last time people were talking about the Constitution like they are now? Gun control is a death wish for Democrats even in Chicago. Abortion is being beat down. The next big goal is getting government shrunken down to its Constitutional limits.

We won't get there as a minority party. We need to play chess here.

Pass a budget that suspends Obamacare. Let the Senate fight it out with themselves. Right now the thing to kill is Obamacare and the Administration that jammed it down our throats.

You don’t have the votes in the Senate to kill it and Obama will veto it and the media will show us starving children, homeless soldiers and bread lines. Then they blame the rabid right.

There is no forcing it through, there’s finessing it through. You want to keep Obamacare and its deleterious effect on the economy front and center. It’s the liberal masterpiece. Let them choke on it.

If you vote to kill Obamacare it goes nowhere and you look ridiculous. Suspending the ACA and letting Obama decide when it gets reimplemented forces him to pass the ACA twice.

It forces the Democrats to own it and any government shut down. If the Dem Senate doesn’t pass a suspension and lets the government shut down it’s they who wouldn’t compromise.

You go on every talk show and news station and say just that: “Obamacare is killing our economy and destroying jobs. We would like to end it. It’s terrible and we have better solutions, but we need the votes in the Senate to implement them. We compromised and look what the radically liberal Democrats did. They don’t care about America or the American people.”

You kick the populist leg right out of the Democrat stool (no pun intended). We’re the party of the people, we feel your pain, and we have the solutions. Give us the government and we’ll prove it.

We have started. The fight is already engaged, haven’t you noticed?

There is no one and done. We don’t have the votes. I understand the frustration, but we need to think long term and generationally.

We got here starting a century ago with T. Roosevelt, then Wilson, Hoover and then FDR. FDR had nearly four terms. The Dems controlled Congress for nearly two generations. They had LBJ and the media on their side.

We need to use the levers of power most effectively. We only have the House. Suspension is the winning ticket and it will hurt the Dems and benefit us long term.

Remember there are more elections coming up.

Chess? You’re playing mush ball. Read Obama the commie’s lips. He will NOT negotiate with the Republicans!! Period. He’s drawn yet another red line. Obama/Reid have taken a hard communist line, but they have no ground to stand on.

They cannot spend any public money on this communist crap without congressional approval.

The Republicans need to take an even harder line. And stick to it no matter what!!

If they cave to the commies, there’s a whole bunch of RINOs who are going to get voted OUT!!

Yup. You and your wimpy rinos had best understand that. There is another election coming up. We voted these assholes in to block ObamaCare. Do it or say goodbye to your offices!!

Suspending the ACA more effectively achieves your goal. It’s like the Sword of Damocles over the economy and the Democrats heads. You won’t win the incorrectly named ‘defunding’ fight.

We need to capture and hold the House and the Senate for at least a generation. That means winning in 2014 & 2016 all the way to 2034.

BTW mush ball is 16” softball in Chicago and is a manly sport.

Jim, if you think I’m a RINO you don’t know the meaning of the word. I am interested in winning and advancing a conservative agenda. That isn’t necessarily gained by a frontal assault.

If we had the House and the Senate, then yes, but not now. Suspension is the better play.

Well, you’re not going to win by trying to convince the already weak RINOs to surrender. This is Free Republic. We are grassroots conservatives FIGHTING the last fight for our Liberty! If you don’t have the will or the balls to fight, get OUT!!

I am fighting. Defunding Obamacare is a symbolic gesture signifying nothing and changing nothing. Suspending it places the burning log into the lap of Obama and the Democrats.

This issue needs to exist into the next election. Then you defund it once you hold both Houses of Congress. That’s when you force Obama to choose between salvaging the economy and growing jobs or his signature legislation.

That’s what I’m talking about. Same team, better strategy and better results.

“One and done”, refers to the rock and hard place between which McConnell is, finally, placed.

You go think long term and generationally. Most of us have been there. That’s why we’re now here. Damn the torpedoes.

Eating broccoli is hard, so hang on.

I can see both your points. I always admire Jim's take-no-prisoners, damn-the-torpedoes attitude, and am so glad he's on our side. I also see 1010RD's strategic approach, and see its merit.

But 1010RD, I would also throw this into the mix: Your strategy only works if we have a team interested in winning this fight, and up to this point, I haven't seen that in the GOP-e. They would go for your strategy, then xcrew you at the last minute. What's your response to that, FRiend?

Pardon, but I’m really glad you’re not in charge.

We don’t have time to be “magnanimous.” nobama is Santa Clause and he’s giving away the store. We need to shut him down ASAP.

Politicians are, by nature and nurture, cowards. If we had the Senate I’d say defund the monster and let Obama veto it, then push the override because every vulnerable Dem will be shaking in their boots.

But, that’s a totally different scenario. We want to make them suffer and the people, the voters, forget and quickly. We have the most conservative House that most of us have ever seen. We don’t have the Senate or the Presidency. That’s the political reality.

If we suspend it, but it hangs there over every Dems head, what will the voters in those districts say when those Democrats go home? The GOP has its brand and it can come off as the party of growth. Blame it all on Obamacare, Big Government and the Democrats. I’d tell every out of work person that this is the economy the Democrats made.

Have them look at Rat run cities, counties and states and they’re all an economic disaster. We’ve got two elections left to get America back on track. She’s not done by a long shot and if we can show the voters that Democrat means pain, joblessness and empty promises we can hold the House and the Senate for a generation.

People don’t like revolutions, but a pro-growth strategy after we’ve taken back the Senate and strengthened the house lets us move on all kinds of issues. A chicken in every pot can be earned and when people are happy they let you do more than you originally planned.

Obama’s hubris and megalomania got us here, let’s use it to get us out. Think long term. There’ll come a time for take-no-prisoners, but it will happen so gently and so logically that the voters will think, of course, that’s what I always wanted.

I want to win and go on winning for decades. I want my country back. That’s what I say, FRiends.
