Scotland Yard to 'downgrade' police entry tests to allow for ethnic minorities

SCOTLAND Yard wants to downgrade the importance of written English tests at police recruitment centres to make it easier for candidates from ethnic minorities to join the Met.

Bosses believe people who do not have English as their first language are being discriminated against under current assessment rules.

They have recommended the weighting placed on the “Written Communication” section of the Metropolitan Police’s tough entrance exam is lowered.

However, they fear a “white backlash” among rank and file officers who feel they have already been passed over for promotion.

Home Affairs Committee chairman, MP Keith Vaz, said last night any move to drop standards would be “insulting” to ethnic minority candidates themselves, and would risk losing public cofidence.

The details are contained in an internal Met report marked “restricted” but which has been obtained by the Sunday Express under the Freedom of Information Act.

The Diversity Health Check document highlights a growing concern about race relations at the Yard, 11 years after the publication of the Macpherson Report into allegations of “institutionalised racism” surrounding the death of Stephen Lawrence in 1998.

The diversity report paints a picture of an agonised management acutely aware their workforce is not representative of the wider London community but at the same time concerned not to damage the moral of existing staff.

However, Met managers are determined to press ahead on filling the diversity gap.

The report, written by the Diversity and Citizen Focus Directorate in June last year—and still being discussed with Met Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe—recommends the Yard lobby for a law change that would allow “positive discrimination” in recruitment.

I agree with that.

They demand to be let in because they’re as good as any guy.

Then first thing they complain because the obstacle course in basic training is too hard.

The guys have to do it, or get weeded out.

The women don’t have to because it’s unfair.

England really isn’t a good role model and doesn’t learn from its past mistakes.

I am really surprised that we led the way with this ‘watering down’ tests and standards to accommodate those that are unable to perform to the set standards, so for a change the Brit’s are ‘following our lead’.

I am old enough to remember the unique thing about the “Bobbies” was they never carried guns (at least the uniformed ‘beat’ officers).

Funny, while they didn’t carry, the citizens were allowed to own, carry or whatever.

THEN they tightened up on the ownership of guns and before long, the Bobbies were forced to carry because the ONLY people with guns were the ‘bad guys’ as the ‘good guys’ complied with the law.

In the future if some barefoot tribesman declares himself to be an agent of Scotland Yard and orders you to put your hands up, do as you were ordered or he will bring the full authority of the Agency down upon you.

“Yes, I know this is in Britain..., for the time being.”

This has been standard operating procedure in the US for years. White firemen in CT recently won a lawsuit because of it; their results were tossed because an insufficient number of “preferred minorities” scored high enough. Ironically, the one black guy who did well had his results tossed, too; they had to invalidate the test for everyone.

Apparently, tests that include such buzzwords as “work”, “book”, and “father” are culturally biased against some groups...

British ‘bobbies’ still don’t carry guns. We have specialist firearms units for any gun incident.

I’m sure it has. You were right to mention it. I’ve seen some of it myself.

Perhaps the most obvious way is how we cater to foreign nationals, demanding nothing of them to live here.

“Oh, you come from there, here let us print everything in your language. Don’t bother to learn ours.”

Our Founding fathers aren’t turning over in their graves at what has happened. They’re just dumfounded at out collective stupidity.

“LOL, it’s about that bad isn’t it...”

I guess; they’re very vague about what exactly is “culturally biased”...
