Fallin Halts Soldier Benefits For Same-Sex Couples

Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin has ordered the National Guard to stop processing requests for military benefits for same-sex couples.

Fallin spokesman Alex Weintz told The Associated Press on Tuesday that the governor was following the wish of Oklahoma voters, who approved a constitutional amendment that prohibits giving benefits of marriage to gay couples.

Because of that prohibition, Weintz says the governor's legal staff advised the Oklahoma National Guard not to process requests for benefits from gay couples.

Weintz says same-sex couples that have been legally married in other states still can apply for those benefits at a federal facility, such as Tinker Air Force Base, rather than a state-operated facility.

Weintz released the following statement:

"In 2004, Oklahomans voted to amend the state constitution to define marriage to be between a man and a woman. That measure, which passed with 75% support from Oklahoma voters, also specifically prohibited giving benefits of marriage to people who are not married. It is therefore prohibited by the Oklahoma Constitution for National Guardsmen, or other state employees or entities, to process benefits for gay couples.

Good for Oklahoma.

It must really irk the statists that not everyone in the nation shares the corrupt values of the east and west coasts.

The Supreme Court of the United States and President Obama are not responsible to the American people or our republic.

Two branches of government couldn't care less about the constitution or our traditions and heritage. Instead, they seek to destroy the society on which republican government depends.

Understand that ALL powers will eventually consolidate in Washington, DC and extinguish liberty unless we press the states to fight back and convene an Article V convention to restore federalism.

This is ultimately an empty gesture, since these same-sex “partners” can just apply for beneifts at a Federal facility instead.

That's not the point. The point is that someone has the "gall" to resist them, and they can't have any of that.

Nothing empty about it. Let them apply to the Feds. Oklahoma took a stand GOD bless them, and they are sticking with the program. Were they to follow through issuing such benefits to homo’s the stand they took would be the empty gesture.

Oh, I understand and appreciate the stand Oklahoma is taking. I’m just saying that, in the end, these “partners” are going to get these benefits, with or without the cooperation of Oklahoma. It’s a good gesture, but ultimately not one with much of an effect (”empty” was probably the wrong word to use).

...prohibits giving benefits of marriage to gay couples

If normal non-married couples cannot get benefits, why should homos? Wouldn't that be discrimination?

I just wished Governor Falin would take this a step farther and kick out of the OKARNG anyone identifying themselves as a homosexual or claiming homosexual marriage.

Next I wished she would boot ANY senior officers in the OKARNG that do not help her oppose the POTUS on this issue. Make them support the Governor first, not the President.
