GRAVES PLAN DELAYS AND DEFUNDS OBAMACARE
Human Events (excerpt - click for article) ^ | Sept 16, 2013 | By: John Hayward

Posted on 09/16/2013 2:50:08 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA) made his bid to stop the ObamaCare train wreck by introducing the Stability, Security, and Fairness Resolution, which essentially funds every part of the government except ObamaCare for the coming year. The gigantic federal government is now funded by an endless string of emergency spending resolutions, a stack of fiscal Band-Aids high enough to reach the Moon. Rep. Graves is simply proposing to leave ObamaCare out of this year’s check-writing frenzy, which seems only fair, since President Obama already broke the law to delay the crucial employer mandate past the 2014 elections. Why not put the whole thing on ice until the employer mandate goes into effect?

“This plan is straightforward,” said Graves. ”We will achieve long-term stability by funding the government for the next fiscal year. Additionally, the resolution includes the three House-passed appropriations bills that affect our national security and our veterans. Our troops, their families and our veterans should not have their priorities put on hold. Finally, our plan will achieve fairness for every American by fully delaying and defunding Obamacare until 2015. This approach builds upon the Obama Administration’s policy of delaying portions of Obamacare and relieves taxpayers of the burden of funding a program that is not being implemented.”

Democrats, of course, not only want to pour gallons of red ink down the ObamaCare hole, they want to pretend sequestration and that silly Budget Control Act of 2011 never happened. Graves and his 42 co-sponsors are hoping to flip the usual “government shutdown” narrative on its head by putting a year’s worth of government funding on the table and daring the Democrats to shut down the government to protect ObamaCare, which hasn’t been looking any more popular in the latest round of polls. If the Republicans can work the constant drumbeat of horror stories about ObamaCare into a consistent narrative of failed government hubris that no fiscally responsible representative would vote to waste taxpayer money on, it will be harder for Democrats in the media to paint the Republicans as the ones eager to force a shutdown.

if obama can decide which parts of the law are implemented and which aren’t, a citizen can decide which parts of the law to ignore.

...flip the usual “government shutdown” narrative on its head by putting a year’s worth of government funding on the table and daring the Democrats to shut down the government to protect ObamaCare...

The real story!

Dems and the "news" media will spin, spin, spin that it's the Repubs shutting down the gub'mint, when in reality it will be the Zero King if he doesn't sign the bill. The "news" media, of course, will spin it as the Repubs sent him a bill he couldn't sign.

Whatever, Jim...throw sand in the gears...defund, do everything legally possible to stop this disgusting, vile law from taking away more freedom.

The thing has already destroyed job creation, I am sure it will do be even more disastrous for health care.

“... pour gallons of red ink down the Obamacare hole”, and gallons of black ink will be poured out in the media against our guys fighting socialism/Marxism.

Fight this, we must, exhausted or not.

As Ted Cruz has said, “Let’s see if Obama is willing to shut down the government to fund Obamacare.”

Perfection in a nutshell.

This is good political strategy. We need to bury the Democratic Party, but in a slow, gentle way. Nobody wants a revolution, but after we take over Congress and we get the economy going in 2015 we can hold it for decades.

Why not go for the entire enchilada and abolish some departments, agencies, and commissions while he’s at it?

If they want to challenge me, darken my doorstep. My dog loves fresh meat.

By Boehner worrying about political consequences and never standing up for principle, nobody respects conservative issues. Just defund the damn thing; the HOR has already voted against it over 40 times, and Obama just keeps implementing the parts of it he feels like implementing.

There is no compromise with Obama. We've tried it the RINO way and it's a joke. It's time for the RINOs to listen to the constitutional conservatives who actually give a damn about the US!

grrr...end of rant

Even if the entire congress voted for this, Obama would veto it. Then hopefully enough of them would have enough stomach to over ride the stinking veto.

Unfortunately, the Dems have no interest in a years’ worth of funding either. It would deprive them of one of their main tools with which to bash Republicans.

I’ve thought about this some more. I still think the chances of this getting through are slim. But that said I do think its a more clever approach than many. Truth be told if we were to give up the sequester in exchange for a 2 year moratorium it would probably be a fair deal.

Sure. I’ll make the call. It’ll take me all of 2 minutes. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

Good point.

I think I would upgrade it to the “Stability, Security, Fairness, and For-the-Children” Resolution”.

All gop leadership DOES support boehnercare. The question is whether the backbenchers are willing to buck the leadership and say no.

I’m extremely skeptical but hey, it costs all of a 2 minute phone call to voice your support for this plan.

The gigantic federal government is now funded by an endless string of emergency spending resolutions, a stack of fiscal Band-Aids high enough to reach the Moon.

THIS needs to stop, and Congress has a responsibility to pass the 12 or 13 appropriations bills that are on their charter of annual actions. The District of Corruption needs to be burned to the ground (figuratively) and start all over again.
