Report: Putin to travel to Iran for nuclear strategy talks

Russian President Vladimir Putin has accepted Iran’s invitation to visit Tehran to work out a strategy for the Islamic regime’s nuclear program, Fars News Agency reported Saturday. The West believes the Iranian program is a front for developing nuclear weapons.

Putin, seen by Iran’s clerical establishment as a strong opponent to America and the West — especially after his successful political play on averting a U.S. missile strike on Syria — was approached by Iran to protect the Islamic regime in the face of continued pressure by the West over its illicit nuclear program. Russia and the U.S. reached agreement Saturday to take control of Syrian President Bashar Assad’s chemical weapons arsenal by mid-2014.

Fars, the media outlet run by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, said Putin will soon travel to Tehran, although details of the trip have yet to be announced. Fars said Iranian President Hassan Rowhani issued the invitation to Putin on Friday while both leaders were attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said the Russian president accepted.

“Russia could possibly take new steps in solving the Iranian nuclear dossier,” Rowhani said. “The Russian initiative in relation to the Syrian chemical weapons and the steps taken by the Syrian officials provide this hope that a new war can be averted in the region.”

“Russia looks at Iran like a good neighbor,” Putin was quoted as saying. “I am very happy meeting the new Iranian president and personally congratulate him for his [recent presidential] victory. … We are aware of the opinions on the world’s stage in relation with Iran’s nuclear program; however, we have to also consider that Iran is our neighbor, a good neighbor.” . . .

Russia wouldn't have dreamed of this five years ago. But with a complete lack of leadership from the US, all bets are now off.

Nature abhors a vacuum and lack of US leadership invites Putin to fill the void.

Can you checkmate twice in the same game.

These guys are moving fast because they know our elections cause things to change quickly. With Syria and Iran off the table, I would hate to be sitting in Tel Aviv this morning.

Watch for them to get involved with Egypt next.

Obama did just announced he's going to visit the Phillipenes and Indonesia (and others) in early October. New game, new checkmate.

Obama gave Putin a big wave, from which he can create a tsunami.

We can start to reverse that trend in 2014 but every Conservatives needs to get involved and stop whining... not talking about you but reading FR these days... quitters are becoming more and more prevalent and some are enemy agents. Time to man-up and get ready to roll.

He’s making himself the most important leader in the world right now, and loving every minute of it.
Like I’ve said numerous times in the past....all the people who don’t want the U.S. to be the world’s police (and that includes Obama, cuz he said so himself the other day), there are other countries who are waiting to take over the position and Russia is one of them.

Since Obama is vacating the U.S.’s position, Putin is wasting no time stepping in.
That’s not a good thing for the rest of the free world.

In the irony of all ironies an ex KGB agent will likely win the next Nobel Peace prize. Funny, he will deserve it far more than the current pretender in the White House ever did.

Waiting to hear from all the FReepers who’ve been saying that the U.S. shouldn’t be the world’s police anymore.....
maybe they don’t mind if Russia takes over that position.
I DO

This is what we call balance of power. What was done regarding Iran by US in the past few years? Nothing. Russians are no big fans of Iran but in this case they will have more control that will be beneficial to everyone. Sadly we in US have no real politicians and diplomats in power who can play on the world stage.

Russia having control anywhere is never beneficial to everyone....it benefits Russia

FReepers don’t believe what obama does will ultimately be in US interest and like watching him flounder. Is this good for us? No. Condelezza Rice warned about this happening where some other countries would fill the vacuum if US influence was allowed to recede. I think it was going to happen anyway with obama in control.

” I would hate to be sitting in Tel Aviv this morning.”

Well frankly I don't feel so comfortable sitting in the United States these days, with the incompetent fool we have as our president, stumbling and bumbling away while our enemies unite against us.

Russia wouldn't have dreamed of this five years ago. But with a complete lack of leadership from the US, all bets are now off.

We are being strategically encircled, both militarily and financially. The fall of Rome will look like a 1.0 quake compared to what the Marxists around the world have in mind for us. Obama, Jarrett, Axelrod and even Michelle are salivating over the prospect as they think that they will be the beneficiaries. They should remember what happened to Mussolini and his pals.

We should police when it is in our vested national interest to do so. When we fight wars, we need to DECLARE war and fight like we did in WWII. Our police work in Afghanistan and Iraq were “targeted” and under ROE’s that created defeat. Nothing obama would do in syria would make any positive change for us or the world... the time for that action was when he was policing Libya... and that was right after he policed Egypt... how is all that working out for our republic?

Isn’t the same can apply to US? Every country have their own interest but at the current moment Russians have more control of Iran then any other country. Political weakness of the US leadership created vacuum that was filled by Russia. Better them then chaos.
