Sarah Palin and her political action committee have been named in a copyright infringement lawsuit over the use of an iconic 9/11 photo.
The newspaper publisher North Jersey Media Group Inc. is suing the former Alaska governor for posting a copy of the image on Palins SarahPAC website and her personal Facebook page without permission.
The photo depicts three New York City firefighters hoisting an American flag among the rubble at the World Trade Center after the 2001 attacks.
"The photo was pulled from Pain's Facebook page Friday, according to The Alaska Dispatch. It had drawn more than 140,000 'likes' and some 1,500 comments."
Is this the new ploy?
Sue her out of existence like they did in Alaska?
Time to make another donation to Sarah before I have to pay for Odumbo care.
How about the firefighter patriots sue these idiots for using their pictures?
Where would be be without the British press?
Says more about them than her.
Another leftgroup walking the thin red line of terrorism.

You have got to be joking me?
That photo belongs to one particular person?
And they are insane enough to deprive any American of its use?
Gibbs head slap x2...
They still fear her more than any other.
I’m not sure of the copyright regulations on this—but it seems to me I’ve seen the picture many times. And I’m sure Sarah is smart enough to cover all her bases.
The world would be better off with a President Palin.... :)
This was the photo they were going to make a statue out of but the liberal fascists demanded the races be changed to one white one black and one Hispanic so they said F it and called it off.
“The photo was pulled from Pain’s Facebook page Friday, according to The Alaska Dispatch. It had drawn more than 140,000 ‘likes’ and some 1,500 comments.”
LOL. :) It sounds like she has quite the fanbase.
Sarah is media savvy, smart, beautiful. I probably sound like a guy :) but I’m a 50 year-old woman who really admires her.
I can’t remember who it is, but someone has a Sarah ping list; perhaps someone could ping that person. Don’t have access to question marks because my kids have made this a French keyboard. :(
That’d be onyx.
Onyx, consider yourself pinged.
See post #14.
Are they going to sue ME? I shared that pic on facebook on 9/11. COME GET ME LOSERS!!!
I hope Sarah runs in 2016 in a completely new and grassroots way.
This is flat out BS....that pic is posted thousands of places on the net...
Google image search confirms this...looks like a mighty selective lawsuit....
What are the odds the family that owns the jersey new group are big Obama supporters....
This iconic picture of firefighters raising the stars and stripes in the rubble of Ground Zero was nearly excluded from the 9/11 Memorial Museum because it was rah-rah American, a new book says...
New York Post article
This should be seen as an image of public domain, i.e. the statue of liberty. The French are not suing Americans for that image, right?
Who does actually own the pic?
Can they sue this scuzzy “media group”?
“From the moment the picture was published, it has lived a life of its own,” said Thomas E. Franklin, who took the picture of the firemen for The Record, a daily New Jersey newspaper.
9/11 firefighter photo taken by Record photographer is star of ‘The Flag’ on CNN

So we just have to keep slamming this media group by saying they’re just trying to profit off 9/11 rather than making this iconic image available to all if only on 9/11.
Are the millions of folks also going to be sued for posting that pic on Facebook?
The picture was taken by an employee of The Record, owned by North Jersey Media Group. It is private intellectual property and cannot be used without permission, most particularly by someone with whom the owners disagree politically. Exact same principle as a painting, book or software code.
This is not something conservatives should disagree with. It’s their property. If conservatives disagree with how they want it used., they should get together and buy the rights, not appropriate someone else’s property for personal use.
The web has made it extremely easy to swipe images, text, etc. That doesn’t make it right or legal.
It is entirely possible Sarah didn’t realize this was private property. When pointed out to her, she apparently took it down, which was the right thing to do.
I think it’s the likelihood of Palin being targeted more so than the legalities. One wonders how often the photo was used but not dragged into court.
If you had personally taken a photo and owned the legal rights to it, would you object more if Palin or Obama used it without your permission?
I think that after all the lawsuits she’s been put through, someone should’ve been a little more careful about checking on the licensing.
Getty sues EVERYONE. They have a team that goes online searching for anyone that uses their images without paying for them. Its a huge racket that probably makes them almost as much money as their sales of images do. They are hated by many they’ve sued. In fact there are many lawsuits that have been dropped after it was discovered that they actually didn’t own the rights to them. They basically send a scary email demanding several thousand dollars or they will threaten to sue. A lot of people pay up out of fear. I had a buddy of mine get obe of their letters and he found out a photographer in Australia actually owned the rights to the the image he used who wasnt even aware Getty was claiming the copyright and heturned around and sued them!...Payback can be a beotch...lol

Exactly right. Some here need to brush up on Copyright Law. I am a professional photographer and I have successfully sued several persons and corporations for using my registered copyrighted images without permissible use licensing. The law is very clear. If you click the shutter, you own the image.
The image depicted here was not used for editorial use or personal use. It was used commercially. Palin’s marketing people should know better. Just because it’s “on the internet” doesn’t mean you can infringe on the rights of the photographer or copyright owner.
Like I said last nite, the media will never let Palin become President.
They’ll glorify a two-bit hood from Chicago and continue to do so despite being the worst POTUS in our lifetimes.
They will ignore the numerous scandals of his administration, but they will put this “scandal” on the front page of just about every major newspaper by Saturday and the comments section of those newspapers will be filled with people calling her stupid and repeating the numerous myths and lies about her that were created by the media.
The irony is that they will parrot things she never said, then call her stupid for allegedly saying them.
Basically there are too many stupid, lazy, government dependent people in the US to ever vote for someone like Palin, who stands for what America used to be before the degenerates took control of Academia, Media and Politics.
Like I said last nite, things like God, Hard work, Traditional Family, etc...are no longer valued in the US and are actually frowned upon.
But Homosexuality, Bashing religion, Trashkardian TV, Miley Cyrus, Trayvon Idolization, etc...are glamorized by the media, which is comprised mostly of queers, fema-nazi’s, marxists and America-haters/Obama-lovers.
A majority of Americans have been brainwashed by the media into believing Palin belongs in a Mental institution.
When Palin gave her acceptance speech in 2008, I stated that the media would do a hit job on her unlike anything we’ve ever seen.
Sadly, I was right.
A woman who is pro-life, who succeeded without Government assistance, who isn’t a clip-haired, angry looking lesbian will never stand a chance.
The media will eviscerate her or anyone like her, and the sheeple will follow their lead.
They would promote Rachel Jenteal as an intellectually superior candidate over Sarah Palin.
This pic has been in the public domain for 12 years and reprinted millions of times.
I don’t see a copyright on it either.
They are going after Palin because of who she is, not that she used it as a tribute to those that gave their lives on 9-11
Obama could wipe his ass with it and the media would never utter a word about it.
“Is this the new ploy? Sue her out of existence like they did in Alaska?”......
I think you are onto something about sueing her out of existance since it was the only way to stop her albeit for a short time. Fighting petty lawsuits can be very time and resources consuming. I hope she can come back and stick it to the libs BIG TIME.
The world would be a better place without the satanic influence of democrats.
Good to see such profound wisdom on this fine Saturday morning.
I just shared that picture on my Facebook page thus informing my friends how the left is targeting Sarah Palin.
How much are we gonna take friends, before we start really standing up and taking action?
So then if I click a picture of you doing something, I can market and sell that image as much as I want potentially making millions of dollars and you, the subject of the image can do nothing about it?
I understand the principle of photo ownership and copyright, but I think there should be a fair use standard applied to photos or video footage that are newsworthy, which I consider this photo to have become.
Just did the same. Let the bastard try suing me. That’ll be like getting blood from a stone.
She pur her logo in the photo. (see lower right corner) That is a no no for any possible fair use claim.
Maybe I wasn’t clear: your point seems fair enough.
They should have known better.
Didn't see that the first time, had to go back and look -- you're right.
That certainly does put her/her people in a bad position trying to claim "fair use."
You're right, Rodney. The media is our biggest foe.
Our task is to defeat the media.
We need to come up with ways to do it.
I have always believed that we could beat them at their own game. I'm sure there are many media types with many "problems." Like drug, alcohol, sex addictions.
Like marital, financial, gambling, ... problems.
Bring these things out to the public. Take pictures of them. Post them online, etc.
Maybe get some Private Investigators to help.
How many people also “shared” it? I am pretty sure I shared it!! Idiots!
This photo is managed by Getty. The answer is yes. Getty is notorious and relentless. They will sue for the use of a square centimeter cut and pasted from a 1 meter square picture, rotated, re colored, and flipped backwards. . . Their software WILL find it on the web and you WILL receive a demand letter for a license for an amount over $1000 for your illegal use of their image threatening a lawsuit if you don't pay! They put their copyrighted images on FREE image sites, include them in free website templates, wait until unsuspecting people have used them for a while, the drop on them like a ton of bricks!
I have a file full of demand letters from Getty to my company demanding payment for the use of just such a fractional image. . . That WE had nothing to do with! A website designer made a sample website, put our office name on it so he could show us what he could do for us. . . As a DEMO website. Purely on spec! We did not ask him to do it! He came in and said "I want to show you something. . ." Asked to use our computer and linked to a website that had a nice looking design... with a background scene he'd cut from a larger picture HE was licensed to use from Getty. We told him, "Sorry, not interested. We have a web designer."
It was up less than a week, but Getty's crawler found that website, found their fractional image, and for over three years they've been DEMANDING that we pay them $1695.00 for the use of that stupid photo, which according to them we were using promoting our business!!!! They do not care that we did not use it. They don't care that they licensed the web guy to use it. They don't care that we did not solicit it, or that it was not posted by us. They ignore our attorney's cease and desist letters to them. They keep sending the demand letters and making the demanding calls.
