Princeton University Endorses Plan to Make Campus More Diverse
NJ.com ^ | Septbember 12, 2013 | Kelly Heyboer

It has been nearly 50 years since Princeton University began admitting women and actively recruiting minority students, but the school is still too white and too male, according to a new report that calls for big changes on the Ivy League campus.

Christopher Eisgruber, the university’s new president, and the school’s board of trustees signed off today on a series of recommendations by a campus committee convened to take a hard look at campus diversity.

The 19-member group found that Princeton has made great strides in welcoming minorities, women and low-income students into its undergraduate classes in recent decades. But the rest of the school—including graduate programs, faculty and top administrators—still lacks diversity.

"To begin with, ours is an increasingly pluralistic society, and, simply put, Princeton and its peers do not come close to looking like America today," concluded the report by the university’s Trustee Ad Hoc Committee on Diversity.

Princeton’s undergraduate Class of 2016 is the most diverse in the school’s history, with nearly half of the class made up of women and more than 40 percent of the students from minority racial groups. But the other parts of Princeton are not nearly as diverse. White males still make up the majority of the faculty and graduate students in many departments, the report said.

For example, the committee found just 3 percent of doctoral students and 1 percent of postdoctoral fellows at Princeton identified themselves as black. Similarly, Hispanics make up just 2 percent of Princeton’s full professors and senior administrators. Only 22 percent of associate and full professors are women.

"Princetonians have powerful reasons to care deeply about the diversity of the university community. Only by drawing the best talent from every sector of society can we achieve the scholarly and educational excellence to which we aspire."

Frankly I'm surprised that a formerly respectable university would still be caught wallowing in the stagnating backwaters of identity politics. But then it has historically been a spawning ground of self-hating rich class warriors so I guess little has changed.

They want diversity, they should recruit un-indoctrinated students. i.e. conservatives and libertarians.

What they have now is a herd of sheep.

What about gay, lesbian, bisexual, and trans-whatever students? Are they going for the sexual diversity too?

I’ve heard that we are “hetero-normative” if we think in terms of binary male/female sex classifications. I’m sure a good liberal college such as Princeton will make sure they recruit trans-whatever students, and have a 3rd restroom so such students don’t feel excluded, or confused about which one to go in.

I believe these racist admissions policies are just terrible and do not belong in America. (Disclosure: I was admitted to a leading professional school on merit but then they said all their financial aid was set aside that year for another racial group. So I was out. ). This years USA apart as well as denying us our best talent. It’s pernicious as it weakens our society and nation. I support race-blind admissions and hiring and if I ever lose out on merit that’s the way it’s supposed to work. Just saying.

Subtitle here: academic liberalism commits suicide. The new crop will be so ill skilled, so illiterate, that it won’t even be able to do much more than grunt and writhe. Well it couldn’t have happened to a nicer university!

Princeton to increase discrimination against white males.

I overheard one white Dem say to another white Dem that there is no place inside the Democratic party for white straight men.

Too white, too male?

Gee. Try bringing in female minorities. Low income females. Try lowering the tuition. Hey, I know - lower the admission standards. Diversity is the ultimate goal, right?

And when Princeton is no better than some low-rent junior college or even some ghetto high school; then these educrats can feel good about what they’ve accomplished.

Hey here’s a research project. Not why your prize minorities (notice that you do leave out Asians pretty much) are so BAD. But why are palefaces so GOOD?

Maybe if you pooped that pity party of yours, you might find out how to teach everyone else to be so good too instead of squashing the palefaces down to their level in an insane envy.

Princeton to increase discrimination against white males.

What sane white people see as discrimination against white males, the vast majority of all other Americans see as "social justice". Welcome to the white man's present in America. It's sure to get much worse in the future.

...but the school is still too white and too male...

Who says? And why do we (or Princeton) care? How do they "prove" Princeton is "too white"? Are there not black colleges with the same or higher percentage of black students? Are there calls for more "diversity" for those schools? Is there proof that changing the racial makeup of a student body (or any "body") results in more diversity, and that that diversity is good?

How about accusing the school of having too many wealthy students and that adding poor students will help increase their "diversity"? Or will that not get more blacks into the school, which is what the accusers really want?

Real diversity is not about color or race, it's about ideas and the free exchange of those ideas, something most campuses are demonstrably against these days.

There’s one way the idea COULD work.

But it would need God.

Raise the ghetto crowd UP by getting them to embrace saving faith. Harvard once was a church led school!

i have very little of a pity party, the racial discrimination incident was years ago and I went on to make another path for myself.
Some regret, yes, but not a pity party.
I was just saying how I feel the institutional racism (which they openly proclaim, no less!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) is very corrosive and destructive for America, and should be ended.

But while I appreciate the invitation, I do not have a cure, sorry. “Reverse discrimination”
was supposedly going to be a “temporary remedy” -—
alas
to both the US Supreme Court and (very much not related) God,
a day is like a 1000 years....
and it looks like our official national policy of racism is destined to continue forever...or until it helps hasten the ruin of our once-great country.
