Power outage hits downtown Detroit municipal buildings, People Mover, traffic lights & Wayne State

Some of Detroit’s municipal buildings as well as downtown traffic lights and the People Mover are without power. Parts of the Wayne State University campus in midtown also have no electricity.

Power went out just after 1:00 p.m.

City crews and DTE Energy are working to fix two main electrical lines to the city grid, according to Bill Nowling, a spokesman for emergency manager Keyn Orr. Nowling tells 7 Action News the outage was done as a precautionary measure.

Buildings without power include the Coleman A. Young Municpal Center, Frank Murphy Hall of Justice, the McNamara Federal Building, parts of Wayne State University, the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Detroit People Mover and the main branch of the Detroit Public Library.

The City of Detroit Public Lighting Department provides electrical power to these sites. DTE Energy tells 7 Action News they are assisting in the effort to bring electrical service back online.

DTE says a cable failure occurred at 12:45 p.m.

The City of Detroit Public Lighting Department provides electrical power to these sites.

In other words, those areas supplied by a Socialist government entity have lost their power.

In defense of my fellow FReepers, you're talking about the Tigers, who play in the American League. That's not real baseball. Can we really be expected to keep up?

I don’t see that big of a difference aside from the NL risks injuring a pitcher to put a mediocre batter in the line up.

Protecting pansy pitchers from having to take what they dish out at 90-100 MPH ruined the game. I somehow doubt Clemens would have become famous for hitting batters if he had to stand by the plate a couple of times per game.

It doesn’t sound like this outage affects residential areas at all. This is a very specific outage targeting mostly municipal buildings and downtown Detroit isn’t exactly the hood.

Also, I would be Open-Carrying My Side-Arm, for his viewing Displeasure.
