House GOP Leaders Prepare “Hug It Out” Strategy to Fund Obamacare.
Redstate ^ | 9/10/13 | Erick Erickson

Eric Cantor is always looking for new and imaginative ways to screw conservatives. He has Pete Sessions (R-TX), as Rules Chairman, helping him with his latest creative way to screw conservatives. I’ve already well documented Pete Sessions’s increasingly bitter attitude toward Ted Cruz and staggering contempt of his own constituents who want to defund Obamacare.

Cantor and Sessions’ latest idea tops even his most absurd shenanigans. The plan is to pass the real CR that fully funds Obamacare, then pass a fake bill that defunds Obamacare. The Senate will pass the CR, and throw the defunding bill in the garbage. But, Cantor and Session’s theory is that conservatives are so stupid that they will clap like trained seals at the fake bill, and meanwhile not notice that the House just fully funded Obamacare.

Let me break down their plan for you. House leadership will pass a continuing resolution in the House. It will fund Obamacare. Cantor and Sessions will also make sure a separate resolution to defund Obamacare gets passed that would amend the CR to defund Obamacare if the Senate votes for it, which they of course will not. These two separate votes will be combined with great fan fare to make it look like House Republicans are voting for a CR that defunds Obamacare. But the Senate will pass the CR that funds Obamacare, sending it to the President, and ignore the defund resolution.

Pete Sessions REALLY needs to be voted out in next year’s primary, fellow Texas conservatives. Put someone better in his post to represent Texas values.

I like the suspend Obamacare approach. It says, “Let’s get a chance to really look at this thing.” The mushy middle will love it, because they want their goodie bag without paying for the party.

Defunding it doesn’t do enough damage. If you just suspend it businesses aren’t going to go hiring, so you’ll win the election cycle as well. Then with real majorities in both chambers and the Presidency use the Commerce Clause to fix healthcare and encourage a national free market in all things.

Defang the executive agencies and voila, we’re booming again. Then you can reform welfare in a permanent sense, blocking teen moms from ever receiving welfare, but encouraging adoption along with a healthy dose of 5 year prophylactic and a money bonus upon receiving a GED and turning 21 without a further pregnancy.

Strong outreach to the black community, along with the creation of Economic Opportunity Zones right in the heart of Dem controlled urban areas and you have a majority for generations.

Secure the border, improve legal immigration and put forward an Amendment to end birthright citizenship, eliminate the VRA and it’s morning in America!

1. ObamaCARE is a GOP creation. THEY ARE PROUD
and there was a political/biz reason to begin with.

2. THEY ARE NOT UNDER ObamaCARE/RomneyCARE.
Nor their families. Nor their Staff.

They have a word for their constituents: SUCKERS.

Suspending it requires either legislation from Congress signed by Obama, or an illegal order from Obama himself to suspend it.

You say to suspend it would hurt obamacare more than defunding it would. But our Founders gave the power to defund to the House of Representatives in order to reign in an out-of-control Executive. Exactly what we have now. The power of the purse IS powerful, but not if it isn’t attempted

But that claim aside, you assume it can be suspended by a wave of a magic wand, or what?

Actually this is not as dishonest as the author implies.
The Cruz ‘dont blink’ commercials specifically say ‘defund Obama-care’ so the second bill does that. Of course the first CR bill funds it, or vice versa.

The Cruz commercials dont say ‘keep the government shutdown until Reid agrees to pass a O-care defund bill and Obama agrees to sign it’ because he knows that wouldnt sound too good.

House members are not getting lots phone calls demanding defunding and certainly not for a shutdown. Syria has taken over,.

Do you presume it can be defunded by the wave of a magic wand?

Sister, get real. Obama is weak and the Dems might not let him bomb Syria, but they’re not going to run away from Obamacare. That’s a big, big fight and we’re going to lose it. Recall that we’ve got four branches of government, we control only one at the federal level.

How can you have your cake and eat it too? Simply move to suspend it, ‘temporarily’, due to the current economic climate. Set some standards for unemployment rate, timeline and leave the power to re-implement it with the Executive Branch. It’s a compromise after all.

Now, put on your thinking cap and you’ll see why I’m right. ;-]

last I heard Cruz had ~ 12 Senators out of 100 sign onto blocking a O-care funding CR in Senate. It takes 51 to block a CR and 51 to pass one without O care.

So thats a 51 minus 13 = 38 Senators short;.

Well, isn’t Cantor the clever POS. He and Boehner are as much a threat to this country as the slime that sits across the aisle. There never was any real sentiment on their part to upend Obamacare... just the appearance of it.

At this point, I’m caring less about the outcome of the general elections than the need for a concerted effort to toss these traitorous a**holes out in primaries.

Ever wonder why these clowns voted dozens of time to repeal all of obama care, knowing it would die in the senate but never put up a bill for a vote just to repeal the kndividual mandate?

Because “he knows that would’t sound too good”? Cruz has no such intention. He is much more direct. He says fund everything except Obamacare. He then leaves it to the democrats to shut down government if they don’t pass the funding resolution without Obamacare.

Cruz has said openly that Republicans will not be seen as shutting down government if they fund everthing but Obamacare. People from all over the political spectrum do not want Obamacare. So if people see democrats refuse funding because Obamacare is left out, conservatives will win. That’s the idea behind Cruz’ approach.

He knows that if the government shuts down because the House refuses to send the Senate a bill funding O care that House Republicans will get the blame, but see he is not in the House.
That is why his ad says ‘defund Obama-care’ and not ‘House needs to refuse to pass a budget that has Obama-care funding in it even if it results in a shutdown’

Its even worse because Obama-care spending is exempt from a shutdown but the troops pay is not and there is no defense budget in place for FY14. So in a shutdown the troops pay is delayed but Obama-care is uneffected.

Obama-care is pretty unpopular in polls but so is defunding it. That's another point he ignores. More than a few want more spending on it but dont like it as is. If defunding it was as popular as bombing Syria is unpopular then it would be defunded,.

if he can only get 12 Senators to sign on to stop the Senate CR and needs 51 there never was a chance that Bohner would go out on a limb to get blamed just to pick up the slack.

Back in late 2012 last year I was posting frequently a challenge to freepers to get their favorite conservative to actually run for speaker against Bohner so they can 'do' not just 'say'. Not one responded.

Call your favorite pet house hero and ask him to run for Speaker, I dare you.
He will never return the call.
