The Catholic Church in Minnesota and, indeed, around the United States, is deeply concerned about our nations immigration policy. It is inconsistent and ineffective, and it does not promote the common good.
For more than two decades, this country has simultaneously had both a keep out and a help wanted sign at our borders. Our national policy has been to encourage (and permit) illegal immigration in order to create a new and inexpensive labor source.
We have sent mixed messages to migrant workers and their families. Businesses, farmers, homeowners and communities rely on immigrants for labor, yet we simultaneously attack them for being here illegally and treat them as scapegoats for various social ills.
Our unjust system risks trampling the dignity of millions of persons simply because they lack the requisite papers. But we cannot and should not tolerate the creation of a permanent underclass forced to live in the shadows of society. And we must respect all persons, regardless of legal status, because they are made in the image and likeness of God whether or not others find their presence inconvenient

Why aren’t these men in Mexico and South America demanding they pass immigration reform and take care of their people
Something no bishop seems to have noticed: Obamacare punishes non-profit hospitals if they give away health care. The obvious motive is to push churches out of the public square. The progressive goal is to make religion a matter of going to church on Sunday—and NOTHING ELSE.
Archbishop Nienstedt is a dupe. The goal of “immigration reform” is to import a gigantic additional bloc of pro-abortion voters.
Socialism does not EQUAL the teachings of Jesus Christ
Instead, I would suggest that we actually enforce the laws on the books. Deport those here illegally, fine and jail those who employ or aid them.
We are required to follow the law as we are required to follow scripture.
The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you, your Grace.
BTW: Since you asked: The answer is PLENTY.
Thinking this is a replenishment movement after a decade of exodus.
Church has to return to its original mission to save souls and leave social justice to the marxist academics.
All of the bishops took a class on logic in the seminary, so here’s my question: if the bishops believe in open borders, do they also believe in open Communion? If by mere physical presence in the US an illegal alien deserves full citizenship would not,by the same mere physical presence, an atheist deserve full participation in the sacraments?
“KxB”
The archbishop is supporting yet ANOTHER gigantic bill that nobody has read, put forth by the most anti-Christian regime in American history. What could go wrong?
Saved many souls lately, Archbishop?
YOU are what is wrong with the so-called Roman Catholic Church in America today!
Blow up some balloons and hire a clown or two. Better yet make certain the clown is a pedophile.
Tweet that one to Dolan. It would be news to him and the majority of followers.
The pathos by the Pope to park paying parishioners in pews proceeds.
Will Archbishop Nienstedt be willing to take in a few thousand of these immigrants at his quarters, have the remaining millions housed in the sanctuaries of the churches in his diocese?
Can’t the Vatican simply grant asylum for anyone from around the world to come stay in their country?
Hypocrites.
It seems that it does equal the teachings of the Catholic church though.
