Pentagon adjusts plans for more intense attacks on Syria

The Pentagon is preparing for a longer bombardment of Syria than it originally had planned, with a heavy barrage of missile strikes followed soon after by more attacks on targets that the opening salvos missed or failed to destroy, officials said.

The planning for intense attacks over a three-day period reflects the growing belief in the White House and the Pentagon that the United States needs more firepower to inflict even minimal damage on Syrian President Bashar Assad's forces, which have been widely dispersed over the last two weeks, the officials said.

The problem is that Obama made the US into a paper target, we lost all respect from everyone.

Nobody fears us. As someone said, paraphrased “It’s good if they love and fear us, but if we can’t be loved, we need to make sure we are feared”

We are the laughing stock of the world and lobbing a few missiles is not only won’t change it, but will only reinforce it.

We didn’t get involved when the Iranian people rose up against the Iranian radical Islamic tyranny...when we could have turned Iran into a democracy, and defeating radical Islam’s main supporters. We had interest in that.

But in Syria there is no US interest.

I had the same reaction — I guess this just demonstrates the truth of the saying “Politics makes strange bedfellows”...

That's true. But I think the left here is just too stunned to take immediate action. Make no mistake about it. The activist left is angry with Obama. Not just disappointed, but angry.

If Obama is stupid and arrogant enough to strike Syria, the left will be in the streets. And I'll be joining them. I'll be the one holding the American flag.

You made some good points, but Obama isn't making the military decisions. Most presidents only agree or disagree with advice from military leaders. He'll only mess up, if he tries to intervene too much in military decisions by commanders. He's a figurehead--in essence, a civilian administrator. He makes poor speeches and allows Democrat social renegades to do excessive shopping (spending) and foment hysteria.

A few Iranian-American academic feminists can only do so much with great U.S. support (which they and other assets did receive). The mullahs had them scooped up and brutalized. The U.S.A. is not as popular in Iran as the socialist political/regulator class lets on.

...except for its support for Iran's nuclear weapons programs--activities also very important to Russia's plans. Russia did much to foment hostilities in Arab nations and arm those nations in the past to start the Six Day War.

Truth is, I don't trust many of the most influential political constituents on any side. They're socially pathological, debt-guzzling socialists, who sometimes run interference against U.S. defense to keep freight fuel prices low at all costs, keep our dollar unnaturally high (against exports) in this goofy world economy and balance of payments deficits (related to trade deficits) ever higher against our own national economy.

The left follows the MSM and the latter will come up with some excuse that Obama’s hands were tied and that he had no other recourse but to attack Syria.

You don’t seem to understand that the rebels that Obama plans to support and our lefties are on the same side. These are the guys who do not care if a mosque is built where the twin towers once stood and who do not oppose sharia law in this country.

Something that’s interesting and odd, is that the largest numbers of people in the U.S. demographic wanting to support the goal of the Iranian-Syrian-Lebanese-Russian axis are living in or around our large cities. They’ve been duped into believing that Iran will only build a couple of nukes to launch against Israel. Oh, well. They obviously didn’t take the Huns very seriously early on, either.

But there are two kinds of lefties. The first kind are the followers of Saul Alinsky. Obama is in that group. This group is stone cold evil, and would would applaude any chaos that Obama might cause.

But there is a second, and I think larger, group of lefties. These folks consider themselves "progressives" and not "revolutionaries." They believe in unicorns and peace and brotherhood. This is the group that turned on LBJ. And this is the group that will turn on Obama.

This is madness and we must hope and pray that the Congress will thwart these plans. Even if Assad were guilty of the gas attacks, these measures would be totally unwise. To the extent that we cannot really know if the gas attacks are real or who was responsible, that further erodes any possible justification.

Impeachment must follow. This madness has gone too far.

I think this is related to Benghazi. I know this is pretty out there, but I think the weapons we were couriering through Benghazi were chemical weapons.I think that’s why they are going through so much trouble to hide all those CIA agents. Just dealing normal weaponsis bad, but not bad enough to justify all the trouble they are going through to cover it up. I think it was chemical weapons and I think it was designed for the rebels to use them and blame Assad and then we, meaning Obama, would run in and save the day. Only problem is he miscalculated because no one else wants to be involved over there.
Now he has to go regardless,lest the world find our chemical weapons there. He has to go for no other reason than to destroy those weapons. That’s why we are not waiting on the UN inspectors.
I realize that sounds far fetched, but I don’t put anything past those traitors in Washington

I hate to see and say it, but I never thought I would see the day when I would be rooting for Putin hoping that he will teach our socialists a thing or two, who are attempting to use Syria as a diversionary ploy from Fast and Furious, Benghazi, IRS scandal, EPA and so forth…….heaven help this once Great Nation now mired in scandals and corruption.
