Retired Army Gen. David H. Petraeus, former CIA director under President Barack Obama, called strongly Saturday for Congress to back the White House on Syria, declaring that military action against the regime is “necessary” to deter “Iran, North Korea and other would-be aggressors.”

“Failure of Congress to approve the president’s request would have serious ramifications not just in the Mideast but around the world,” Petraeus said in a four-sentence statement provided to POLITICO.

Dang.

David H. Petraeus, you are smarter and better than this.

For all we know DP was blackmailed into making the statement. It’s the Chicago way.

the last week or so has really been amazing to see some of the politics involved.

The Obama WH is now sending out “General Betrayus” to make the case for war by pointing out the threats posed by the two remaining members of the “Axis of Evil”.

Never thought I’d see the day.

I think Obama should just go all in and have a joint speech with W. That would be must-see TV

Total blackmail going on there.

Definitely a case of "sign this statement or we'll throw you under the bus for Benghazi" going on.

I was hoping Gen. Petraeus had reconciled with his wife.

I guess not.

Well, perhaps.

If true, one would hope that Petraeus could rise above even that.

Petraeus lost me when he started worrying about what some Florida preacher was doing.

Are we surrounded by losers rather than leaders?

other would-be aggressors

Huh? Abbas is not a would be aggressor. He's defending his country!

Obama's out, is to say new evidence indicates the line may not have been crossed by Abbas. So strike is off pending further investigation. That is what I think most Americans believe.

But the problem is, the Sarin gas accusation is just a ruse to put Islamist in power in Syria and then also in Egypt.

Actually, I totally agree with Gen Petraeus - not supporting the President will undermine and do damage to both the President personally and to the country.

In a normal world dealing with a normal President, the correct and rational thing to do would be to support him.

For Obama this just simply is not the case.

The damage President Obama has already done in conduct of his military operations and the even greater damage he will do in any future military adventures is so dangerous and damaging to the United States that he must be stopped at all costs.

Any damage done blocking Obama military misadventures is orders of magnitude less damaging than letting carry out his military agenda.

There are no good solutions to the problem , but blocking him is currently the lesser of two evils by a long shot

Who is he? Oh, that’s right, he wrote the Rules of Engagement for Iraq and Afghanistan.

What difference would it make MR Petraeus if Iran, North Korea or any other enemy of the US is emboldened to attack us since you won’t let us defend ourselves and support an administration that wants ALL of our weapons.

I’m sorry, Mr. Petraeus, you are not Alexander the Great, and I seriously doubt that the strategy of a military campaign designed by him 300+ years BEFORE CHRIST would be run the same as a military campaign after 632 AD, if you get my drift.

Betrayus has been disgraced. Everybody knows why he lied for Obama
about Benghazi. He had at least one squeeze on the side. I suspect Obama
has evidence of more.

Well Mr. Petraeus, here's a message from some of our future "allies" in Syria. I don't read Arabic, but I think I get the message contained in it. The question is, do you?

Must be really bad. Shame on Petraeus for putting himself in such a position.
