Abbott to govern with 30-seat majority (official - conservative victory in Australian election)

THE federal Liberal-National coalition is likely to govern with a majority of at least 30 seats after a swing of just over three per cent against Labor.

The ALP has become the first two-term federal government to be thrown out of office since Gough Whitlam's regime in 1975.

Tony Abbott's coalition is on track to pick up 90 seats, with Labor holding 57, in the 150-seat parliament, but it won't have a majority in the Senate.

Kevin Rudd has conceded. Tony Abbott has just finished his victory speech. He is Prime Minister Elect, and in about a week or so, will be sworn in as the 28th Prime Minister of Australia.

We have a genuine conservative. And from all I can see, a good man.

>> We have a genuine conservative.

Great news for Australia and the world!

I confess a bit of jealousy though. :-)

My Aussie brother-in-law predicted his a year ago. The big issue was the carbon tax that the Labour government pushed through despite promises not to impose the tax. Aussies were mad as hell their electric bill went up by 20% as a result of the carbon tax.

Great news for the Aussies.

Whoever advised his campaign needs to come stateside and help out the rudderless GOP.

Good for them. Rudd sounded more nuts than Gillard.

Is it expected that the conservatives will repeal it?

Yes, the new government is committed to repealing the Carbon tax as one of its first priorities.

For any Aussies: What will be the effect of not having a majority in the Senate? Will the Carbon tax repeal have difficulty?

If there is an election in 2016, I will personally vote only for hand picked conservatives who will represent my conservative values and leave the rinos and liberals of the pubs to be elected by their liberal rino fools that believe their lies. The GOP is dead as it is filled with liberal democrats who have destroyed them from within. I do not believe that America can recover from the disaster it brought upon itself and will, as all corrupt nations have, disappear into the slime of secular humanism.

The high cost of liberalism is always destruction of the economy by those who steal their hard earned money through over taxation and all their useful idiot voting blocs.

The big question is, in that they have 20 out of 40 seats in the senate, are there any of the six crossbenchers who will join them?
