France says would not act alone on Syria if US rules out strike
Voice of Russia, Reuters ^ | 9-4-13 | VOR

France will not intervene alone in Syria if the U.S. Congress votes against action, President Francois Hollande said on Tuesday.

"If the decision of (Congress) was not positive, then we would not act alone, but we would not shirk our responsibilities, by supporting the opposition in Syria in such a way that would provide a response," Hollande said after meeting German President Joachim Gauck.

So much for Obama's "neat little war" allies...

What kind of diplomatic BS response is this:

we would not act alone, but we would not shirk our responsibilities, by supporting the opposition in Syria in such a way that would provide a response

Are they basically saying “We think Syria should be attacked but won’t do it unless the US goes first. If the US chooses not to go we will not send troops either but we will support the rebels in other ways”?

God, I HATE diplo-speak

Seriously?!? Our foreign policy has devolved to what amounts to a couple of kids looking at each other and going “I’ll do it if you do it”.

The only thing France has acted alone on since their little attempt at empire building in Mexico back in the 1840s (I think) is waving the white flag and maybe presenting the sword of surrender to whom ever was shooting at them at the time.

So they won't shirk their responsibilities by supporting someone else to take care of it?

Hmmm.

I don't think even Rosetta Stone would help me with the linguistic nuances, here.......

What he means is they would attack, but with a cautious, anti-war demeanor.

Or more likely than "WTF?", something like the Russian equivalent of "LOL!".

“...waving the white flag and maybe presenting the sword of surrender to whom ever was shooting at them at the time....”

Ok...once and once only, I’ll stick up for the Frogs...

The French Poilu fought like absolute maniacs in World War I. Yeah, they had the Brits and us helping them, but look at Verdun for an example of how they fought tooth and nail and would not cede one inch of ground... Operation Gericht was meant to bleed the French white; it wound up bleeding the Germans as badly as it did the French. They just wouldn’t roll over and quit.

Gotta give them a little credit where its due...

(donning flame-retardant suit in 3....2....1)

Seriously though - if you want to read an amazing account of the French Verdun, read “The Price of Glory” by Alistair Horne (1961).

Three negatives followed by 2 positives, and a jumbled mass of 36 words that confuse, conflate & distort whatever it is that this socialist is trying to say. No wonder he's buddies (I think) with 0dumb0! Good to know that we're not the only country with an idiot for its' leader.

It’s your former colony, France!

The UK and France should be required to do the dirty work over there seeing that they made up those stupid countries.

The Frogs might actually be resting up a bit and re-loading. It’s only been a few weeks since they sucked it up and did some serious house cleaning in Mali on their own.
