I think your response was to the comment that has been removed by the moderator—it is just above Wanderer’s statement and it seems I responded to what SEEMED your response to Wanderer when it may, in fact, have been your response to whoever got “removed”—sorry, but the way it’s listed, it looks like you had a problem with Wanderer’s comment.

Last year I had to produce a photo i.d. to get allergy medicine and I couldn’t buy 2 of them! I don’t see Leftists denouncing that photo id requirement.

I was 12 when I had a political epiphany, too (and without any “help” from grown-ups). I realized that my school and most public schools weren’t interested in teaching children critical thinking, but making them mind-numbed leftist Democrat automatons. Think they would’ve given that 12-year old political activist a platform to expose that ?
Lowering the voting age to 16 appears to be a common position among liberal kooks in the UK and Canada.
In the movie “North”, in which children gained power over their parents by threating “divorce”, the voting age likely would have been lowered to 9.
Canadian Green Party Leader Elizabeth May (an American by birth) after her defeat for a seat in parliament in 2008 (she won that seat in the next election) stated that she would have won in a landslide if kids 5 and up could vote.
“Wild In The Streets” should be required viewing (demonstrating why the 18-under 21 set should never have been enfranchised, save military members). It’s like the “Idiocracy” of its era.
Well I’m definitely not in favor of granting special civil rights based on military service, I doubt that would be constitutional anyway (equal protection), the age should be the same for all. I would have hated missing 2002, I missed 2000 by 1 year. It would be nice to be free of the drooling 18-21 set though.
I don’t much agree with the drinking age being 21 either, either you are a legal adult or not. They all drink anyway.
This begs the question do we really want to go back to considering 18, 19 and 20 year olds to be minors? If not then they should have all the rights of adulthood. If so then under 21’s shouldn’t be able to marry or join the military either.
The special rights is strictly that if they’re serving and could die in the course of their duties, they’re old enough to have a say in their country’s affairs. Lowering the age from 21 was a big mistake on the whole. Conversely, I do agree with lowering the drinking age back to 18. Despite having the right to vote and join the military, the 18-21 set are still considered “minors” solely on the drinking issue as well as gambling*.
(*as an aside, I visited Las Vegas in 1992 when I was about 18 and got shooed away from the gambling areas by security, despite being with my father. He thought it was funny because it reminded him of when he visited LV in 1961 with his first wife (he was about 22). She was then about my age at the time (and pregnant) and also got shooed out the gambling areas for being a “minor”)
As for marriage, that used to be lower than today, as some states routinely allowed 14-year olds (and some younger, although I believe parental consent was required) to marry, and they were clearly minors.

Yes 18 year olds will get drunk and crash their car, they do anyway, so do 16 year olds. So do 40 year olds.
I’ve never rented a car but I heard it’s hard to until you’re 25. They let you drive one at 16 but not rent one for 9 more years? I guess that’s insurance company policy though and not decided by the government.
A basic intelligence/civics/English literacy test is the real voting restriction we need. But thats racis’.
In several parts of the world, one is considered an adult at 16. In fact, in earlier times, many 16 y/o’s were living on their own. The schools, among other things, have prolonged childhood and retarded maturity.
Luckily I recently moved to Wilmington so I am willing to work to keep our state going in the sane, common sense and conservative direction!
