World War II's first victim (Gleiwitz Incident)
UK Telegraph ^ | 08/31/2013 | Bob Graham

Posted on 08/31/2013 12:44:12 PM PDT by Kid Shelleen

As the rays of early evening sun lingered over the giant wooden mast that protruded through the pine forest, two cars passed through the gates of the German radio station and sto1pped outside the three-storey transmission building. n the following minutes, seven SS officers posing as Polish partisans, would carry out a simple act that would leave one man dead on the station steps – and provide Adolf Hitler with the excuse to invade Poland , plunging the world into six dark years of conflict. The events that took place in the fading light of August 31, 1939 around Gliwice radio station – some four miles inside Germany, on the border with Poland – have largely been overlooked by historians. Even relatives of the dead man have only spoken of the incident in hushed, private family gatherings, preferring not to ask questions of authorities on either side.

Another little tidbit was that Stalin’s greatest fear was the KPD gaining power in Germany, and ultimately rivaling the Soviet Union for leadership in the worldwide Communist movement. Which is basically why Stalin silently approved of the Nazi roundup of German Communist leaders, like Ernst Thaelmann. Hitler did Stalin’s dirty work for him, in eliminating most of the leadership of the German Communists.

One of the most interesting "what ifs" would have been, if Pilsudski had survived.

Hitler at Pilsudski's funeral.

Hitler admired Pilsudski, even signing a non-aggression pact with Poland in 1934. He knew of Pilsudski's hatred of the Russians, and perhaps felt he could have been a partner. Most interesting was the fact that Hitler specifically ordered an honor guard to Pilsudski's grave in Krakow when the Nazis occupied Poland.

And again in Poland — when Warsaw rose against the Germans during that long retreat, Stalin ordered the Red Army advance stopped so the Germans would be able to destroy the independence forces and take the blame for it.

Well, we haven’t had an apologist for Hitler on this forum fo0r a while. If ever. I can’t wait for this Weber guy’s and his religion’s FR preacher “TRUTH” about Auschwitz.

The main point that I have taken from the records, manuscripts and papers is that no one really knew what anyone else was doing, everyone was stabbing the other in the back and it was a monumental, worldwide cluster$*&#. I include the allies in this and hold it against Roosevelt most of all. The straightest player was Churchill and we see what that got him. Disrespect in much of his own country.

In politics, like toilets, crap rises to the top.

Hitler did Stalin’s dirty work for him, in eliminating most of the leadership of the German Communists.

In 1939, after the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, many German Communists who had fled to Moscow after Hitler came to power were arrested and shot. Others were handed back to the Gestapo. A few lucky ones survived and would later run East Germany.

>>>I always thought that the Nazis and Soviets jointly started the European war. Does Hitler attack without the Non-Aggression pact? I highly doubt it.

The fact is, Stalin wanted war, so that the Germans, British and French could bleed each other dry, so as to allow the Red Army to swoop in from the East and clean up the mess.<<<

If you want to know read “Diplomacy” by Henry Kissinger. Henry is not a particularly nice person but this book is a must read if you are curious on how WWII has started.
Yes, Stalin probably wanted to expand into Europe militarily but he wasn’t in a position to do so in late 1930s-earlier 1940s and he was actually looking for an alliance with France and Britain against Nazy just prior to his infamous non-aggression pact which was nothing but appreasing Hitler.

Actually there was more than just one dead man. There were six concentration camp inmates dressed in Polish uniforms and given a slow-acting lethal injection. They were left lying around the radio station as ‘’proof’’ of Polish treachery. This attack code was named “Operation Canned Goods’’ and it was the work of Himmler’s number two go-to- guy Reinhard Heydrich . Heydrich at one time was about the most sinister and feared person in Nazi Germany. He had the goods on everybody, from his own boss Heinrich Himmler to Hitler himself. When he got bumped off there were a whole lot of fat cats in the Third Reich sleeping a little more sound at night.

What if just one of the atomic bombs had failed to detonate and the Japanese recovered it.

There was some who insinuated that Heydrich was part Jewish. But it’s true, there were few tears shed when Heydrich was killed, other than by Hitler, who loved the guy, and made sure no one, even Himmler could do anything to him.

I've heard that rumor about Heydrich having a Jewish grandfather but I don't know how true it was. It wasn't uncommon in Nazi Germany to try and blemish someones career with insinuation about possible Jewish ancestry or accusations of homosexuality. I don't recall Hitler being fond of Heydrich though. You might be thinking of one of his original body guards, a guy by the name of Bruno Gescher. Heydrich was from an aristocratic German family. He was well educated and cultured. Hitler tended to despise these ‘’bourgeois’’ types because they reminded him of his lowly beginnings. Hitler was more at ease with lower class, rough around the edges types like Geschner.

"...when the Nazis occupied Poland."

This is one of the few things I hate in America - calling Hitler's Germans "Nazis". THEY WERE GERMANS. JUST GERMANS, whereas only the small percentage of them were NSDAP officials and operatives.

As far as we look into it, that simplistic Nazi terms collapse at all. For instance, some Poles before the war were Nazis indeed and hated Jews. However they were murdered by Germans too, just because they were Polish, the "untermenschen".

So, when it comes to the crunch and contemporary young men are asked about WWII, its outbreak victims and aggressors, things are not as easy as it seems to be. Although the vast majority says that "Nazis started the war", answering the question "Who were the Nazis?", e.g. many students of the history faculty of the University of Washington say they were...Poles, adding that "In 1939, Polish Nazis invaded peaceful Polish Jews..." :(((((

Anyway, the Polish TV broadcast a documentary about it. The whole nation could see that with their own eyes. My God!!! It was shot in 2010 or so! In the very heart of the sole world's superpower! Answers given by the future intellectual elite of the USA!

So, I wouldn't be surprised at all if in the near future I was called "a son of Nazis", a son of those who on Sep.1,1939 invaded peaceful Germans, created hundreds of death camps etc. etc. etc.

It's Gliwice, not Gleiwitz, for Gods sake...
Although it's kind of funny how MSM still stick to Nazi terminology. FYI the first act of war took place in the city of Wieluń in Poland, that's the place where war really started (apart from Jabłonków incident).

And Austrians......In fact, the Austrians were even WORSE than the Germans...Of course, Hitler was one of them.....Eichmann sent his formative years in Austria, Seyss-Inquart, Kaltenbrunner were born in Austria....but it seems no one remembers Austria's role.

re: “...but it seems no one remembers Austria's role.”

You hit the nail on the head. In fact, Austrians were more sadistic and ruthless than Germans. Most of notorious war criminals from Hitler's regime were Austrians.

Even before the Anschluss, the Austrian SS were so out of control, the Germans had to tell them to tone it down.

Despotic regimes always use foreigners with no ties to the local population.

Makes you wonder with all of the illegals pouring into this country, if the spawn of them will one day serve as "camp guards".
