John Kerry administered a diplomatic slap in the face to Britain following David Cameron's withdrawal of military support for intervention in Syria, omitting the UK from a long list of 'friends' prepared to support US actions against the Assad regime.
The diplomatic smart was made worse by Mr Kerry's pointed reference to the French as "our oldest ally" – a reference that dates back to France's role supporting America against Britain in the American Revolutionary War that began in 1776.
"It matters here if nothing is done. It matters if the world speaks out in condemnation and then nothing happens," said Mr Kerry less than 24 hours after the Commons vote that forced Mr Cameron to renege on his offer to support US action.
"America should feel confident and gratified that we are not alone in our condemnation and we are not alone in our will to do something about it and to act," added Mr Kerry, making an impassioned case that the world could walk on by in the face of Assad's use of chemical weapons.

Well, he’s technically right.
Well, yes, they were. The French have been allies with the US pretty much since day one.
I believe there were a number of countries which recognized our independence before Great Britain did: Netherlands, Spain, Poland, Prussia and maybe even Morocco.
Not diplomatic, but at least for once he’s not wrong.

He is correct, though still a horse faced chucklehead. France has been an ally of the U.S. since the revolution. They are not are most ardent ally, but our oldest.
France was our ally when we were fighting for our Independence from, “wait for it”, Great Britain. So he’s right about that. They certainly haven’t been our best ally of late, that title has belonged to the Muslim Brotherhood ever since Obama sent back that bust of Churchill.
Let’s see how many Algerians the French put in harm’s way.

Of course, the reason the French supported the US in it’s earliest stages was in the hopes of distracting the British from all of the fighting on the continent.

Kerry could have said a few simple words about British
support coming after the UN’s findings but no.
The damage this administration is doing will last decades.

Ih 1664 we were Englishmen...
From 1664 until 1775 we as Englishmen fought the French on US soil just about every year for those 100+ years...
My Irish born Englishman ancestor was killed by the French and Indians at Lake George in 1755..His FIL fought the French in 1711...
Except for 2 short periods 1775-1783 and 1812-1814...about 10 years ...when we fought major battles against the English crown...
we have been allies ...sometimes best chums and sometimes cautiously...but allies..
maybe Carry is referring to Jefferson and his French naturality and how close we must be to France because of that...
