Conversion Therapy Law Threatens Christians: We're one step closer to mirroring Saudi Arabia
American Thinker ^ | 08/30/2013 | Fay Voshell

When Chris Christie signed a law against conversion therapy directed at counseling teens experiencing homoerotic feelings, he probably didn't think he had just put New Jersey on a path similar to countries like Saudi Arabia, which forbids conversion from the prevailing Muslim faith.

But forbidding efforts to convert is essentially what the governor did. He expressly forbade conversion from the prevailing progressive religion, whose chief doctrine is that sexual behavior, including the homoerotic behavior of some children, is a sacred, infallible, and therefore unchangeable indicator of what human identity entails.

He forbade moral suasion. He forbade attempts to persuade young people that another way of life is available. That other way that is forbidden is, of course, the way of Christian sexual ethics. Counseling a kid to follow the Christian way, to attempt to change his or her homoerotic behavior, is verboten.

It's not put quite that way, of course. Supposedly the law is meant to punish abusive therapists. But laws against abusive counselors are already on the books. We can suspect that the real goal is to make sure no one other than progressive high priests of sex counsel youngsters about sexuality. The unstated companion goal is the elimination of Christian and other conservative therapists from the profession.

As is usual with progressives, they are dealing with a red herring while real abuse is going on right under their noses. Few seem to be noticing the reality of abusive "conversion therapy" going on elsewhere, including in our public schools. Have they noticed the abusive "conversion therapy" directed against little boys and girls who dare even to think about guns? Do any of them remember the little guy who, when he brought a cap gun to school, was interrogated for so long he wet his pants?

“...signed a law against conversion therapy directed at counseling teens experiencing homoerotic feelings...”

forbid the conversion of homosexuals today,

forbidding the conversion of non-believers to Christianity tomorrow.

Christianity is and has always been one generation from extinction. It is an imperative to pass on the faith.

The GOP is the party that first installed
RomneyCARE/ObamaCARE, gay marriage,
and anticonversion law.

Not conservative in any way.

I wonder if he be for a bill forbidding people to leave the Baptist church to go join a Methodist church. Some groups do therapy, religious cloning, this too should be categorized as evil and needs to stop.

I’m so confused.

If you can not have ‘conversion classes’ to prevent people from dissuading young gays that they should not be gay, then surely you can not have ‘conversion classes’ to prevent people from dissuading young heterosexuals that they should not be heterosexuals.

Isn’t that what is being taught in school today?

The above question of course has an unstated assumption — that gays are BORN THAT WAY.

Without even saying it, you have simply agreed with Chris Christie’s contention — that gays CANNOT CHANGE and that it is IN BORN.

Of course, we are still waiting for scientific proof of that....

I think it has been proven that gay people are “wired” that way. I can't believe that anyone would want to live like that, or put up with what they have to endure.

Can you site for us a scientific paper or a study or a reliable source for that please?

I wish you hadn't shown me that, even though I, like everyone, needed to look at it.

May God forgive us. Those Cups of Wrath and of Justice are easily brimfull to overflowing by now.

What prayers can lower those levels at this point, after so much to fill them and even more yet to pour into them promised by all we do and call to ourselves?

"Wired that way"? I think you need to take a second look.

When he was a young adolescent, my son's best friend, "Micah" was sexually abused by his next door neighbor. Now Micah is troubled by a disturbing combination of feelings related to sexual contact with males. He wants an emotional resolution in line with his own best ethical and personal values.

In plain language, Micah wants to take charge of is own life. He wants to recover, as much as possible, from the trauma of the assault. He does not want gay ideation, gay fantasies, or the gay lifestyle.

The present laws in NJ and CA would forbid him to seek the type of healing counseling he wants, because he is not yet 18. He would have to wait years suffering without the kind of professional care he chooses. These short-sighted bills which block his parents from helping him, gag therapists, and deny him control of his own life, can help nobody but the abusers.

These "ban gay reparative therapy" bills ignore the many young people whose peaceful psychosexual development was thrown off track by abuse. These kids don't need to be told that their disturbed and disturbing same-sex feelings are going to be their lifelong fate.

Many boys' initiation into sex was with an exploitative, or at least opportunistic, older male. Gay "coming out" literature certainly confirms this pattern. They were not "born that way" and were not volunteers for sexual turmoil. How little understanding these CA and NJ politicians have for kids' confusion and suffering.

We need to stop this imposition of the force of law, which prevents sexually confused kids and their parents from accessing the care and the therapeutic approach they choose.
