Walmart to Offer Health Benefits to Same-Sex Couples, Domestic Partners
KARK News 4 ^ | August 27, 2013 | KARK

Health insurance benefits for same-sex couples and domestic partners will soon be offered by the nation's largest retailer.

According to CNNMoney.com, Walmart sent workers a postcard this week informing them that domestic partners of U.S. employees will be eligible to receive benefits starting Jan. 1.

Domestic partners of opposite genders that have been in a committed relationship and living together for at least one year will also be covered under the upcoming changes, according to the article.

Workers will be able to enroll from Oct. 12 through Nov. 1.

Oh, great! Now I have to boycott Walmart, too? My shopping options have gotten mighty slim.

Wait a minute.

Common law marriage is barely recognized in the states, and they are doing this with heterosexual 'roommates' too?

This is going the way of the UK.
I watch a bunch of UK TV and they say 'partner' a lot - you assume homosexuals but they use it for heterosexual couples.

If you don't have that marriage 'license' you aren't 'married' in many legal venues (for homos and heteros)- this changes the legal definition game across all state lines.

My state doesn't recognize common law marriage - now they wold be forced to do so - concerning health care insurance law?

This is hardly new news.
Most large corporations have been doing it for a long time.

Here are Mercer percentages of employers by size that offered health coverage to same-sex domestic partners, 2012.

500-999 employees – 36%
1,000-4,999 employees – 52%
5,000-9,999 employees – 62%
10,000-19,999 employees – 67%
20,000 or more employees – 75%

They’re probably trying to get the unions off their backs by showing some “tolerance and diversity”.

Maybe they're *competing* with CVS. CVS is inviting trained Obamacare “navigators” into stores to assist and facilitate sign-ups for universal health care.

So long, Wallyworld.

No, what I see as new is that they are offering the same health insurance coverage to heterosexual couples in a committed relationship of at least a year.
(Not Legally Married - State Marriage License Sanctioned)
That changes things - big time(big company) - legally across all state lines (well, except VT - lol).

The government ‘frowns’ on common law marriage
This just opened up the gates.
Heterosexual couples too?

What sucks is how WM has moved in and shut down local stores and smaller chains... eliminating competition (and shopping options) for many of us, particularly in more rural areas.

That dog doesn't hunt anymore.

What usually happens is that the employees or owners of the mom and pop stores become department store managers at Walmart in their specialized field. Also, there are higher-end, specialty stores that are built next to or in the area of Walmart as well.

The nail in the coffin as far as me ever shopping there again. I'm just wondering when this aggressive promotion and catering to mentally ill sex perversion and gross despicable immorality will hit bottom, crash, and we can return to a sane civilization again.

If anyone wants on/off any of my ping lists, freepmail me.

That’s okay, at the rate the economy is crashing, you won’t have any money to spend anywhere pretty soon. Or me, I’m practically there already.

I dumped Wal★Mart about five years ago because of the extremely rude checkers.

They also overcharged me every single week.

They'd ring one item twice, usually something expensive, or something I bought would
be charged, but nowhere to be found in my grocery when I got home.

I am very pleasant and polite to checkers because I know that customers can be difficult,
and I do not wish to add to the poor kids' misery.

But when they're just plain nasty for no reason, it's so-long, babe.

Yes, I pay more at Giant Eagle, but people there, with few exceptions, are friendly and polite.

I did recently shop at wal mart (recent meaning within the same year). Other stores are better and they have excellent customer service.

JC Penney learned their lesson about pandering to 2% of the population that 98% find disgusting.

All that "Heather has two mommies" junk is gone from their latest ads that I've seen.

I guess that Wal★Mart has to go through the same thing.

I don’t know where you live - but your statement outright flies in the face of what I have witnessed with my own eyes and of those “mom and pop” folks who lost everything and no, they didn’t get jobs with WM.

Further - and again, this must be the case where you are - but here in rural Arkansas - “higher-end” specialty stores are not anywhere near Walmart.

So, sir, your dog don’t hunt.

How about a new FR rule regarding Walmart - if you are posting in a WM-related thread, you must post your financial position in the company...
