The point though is that thugs usually back down if resistance is shown early. And if more people showed resistance, the thugs would be less likely to seek confrontation. IOW, every time someone meekly submits, that just encourages the thugs more - and leads to more victims being hurt by the thugs.
Thus, we have a duty to resist if we are capable of doing so. And I take that duty seriously. After all, for evil to prevail, all that is required is for good to do nothing.
