Obama doesn't need Congress to intervene in Syria

US President Barack Obama has the authority to launch air strikes against Syria. But he has to notify lawmakers in Congress -- a process which has begun, according to both sides.

"The administration is actively consulting with members of Congress, and we will continue to have these conversations in the days ahead," Kerry said Monday in a strongly-worded statement on Syria.

Can you stomach the genocide of Christians, ALL Christians, by the ‘rebels’? The mb murdered thousands of their own people to attract sympathy from the world press. Women and children, young and old, and the live Egypt thread shows the proof. This is rebel activity. Is this what we support? What YOU support?

Are you willing to risk WW3 that obama is telling you the truth about who used the weapons?

Thousands of Christians are being slaughtered all over the ME and not a peep and now this.

Between changing the subject, straw men, and perhaps a little bong-induced paranoia, I am completely lost as to what I thought was the subject of the U.S. government’s response to the WMD attack in Syria. Obama says the Syrian government had the capability to deliver the CW. That’s the evidence. Now I can get into as much Alex Jones’ nutjobbery,or speculate that AQ, mb, or some other Assad opposition group gassed the Syrian people as a sort of false flag, but I don’t like Alex Jones. And WW3 over Syria? Seriously? 2 Iraq wars, numerous Israel-ME conflicts, Afghanistan...but attacking Syria because it used WMD against its own people? THAT’s going to blow up the world?

Are you that dense that you cannot see the irony/hypocrisy in why I wrote what you quoted? Jeez, take the training wheels off. (that means I’m saying this is a conversation for big kids). “Macho”? meh.

By the Constitution he does:

The Constitution covers both full scale war and operations less than war:

1. Congress must declare war.

2. Congress must issue letters of marque and reprisal:

a. Marque: clandestine type operations in Founder times.

b. Reprisals: attacks less than war in retaliation for foreign misbehavior

So, despite what the War Powers act says, the Congress can fall back on the Constitution....heaven forbid they’d think of such a thing. /sarc

It does NOT help, though, that we have Fox News, Peter King, John McQueeg, Bill Kristol, etc, etc., constantly needling zero with "Hey, what about that red line??? Huh??? Huh?? What about it???"

This is a rare case in which the country would be better served if we let zero save face and back away from his ill-advised comment.

My thinking is that these guys are really panicking. There is a lot that has gone wrong for them lately. All of liberalism seems to be collapsing.

Since congress won’t do anything, I suggest the military commanders tell him to shove it. I don’t mean high ranking generals and admirals. We KNOW they’re cowards when it comes to standing up for the constitution.

A military strike on Syria will help Obama’s legacy as he will be viewed as a great “war President” ...sorta like our very own Shaka Zulu —except Obama will be at the golf course while our military is doing his dirty work.

So, to ‘protect the innocent’, just where do we cut off the World Police/Charity? Where does it start? Where does it end?

The starving/genocide in Africa/N. Vietnam/etc.? Women and children in Muslim countries (rape/sex trafficking/stoning/etc.)? Christian prosecution/execution in Muslim countries?

Roll in and force ‘democracy’ upon them? Whose sons/daughters will we sacrifice? Whose wallets will we drained (and ‘those in the know’ made rich)? And when it fails, as it will (and always has), how many more tries are offered...or do we base it off the military (ours) body count?

There’s the problem w/ the non-isolationist view.

All of liberalism seems to be collapsing.>>>>>>>>

The left and its liberal fascists are painting themselves into a corner. The soluition then is always “WAR!”

I would never carry a single bullet for the Obama fascists, let alone a rifle. Eff them every one. Much of the US military feels the same way.

Oh wow, this article is so Shakespearean! Remember the “Julius Caesar” speech by Mark Anthony: “friends, Romans, countrymen”! That was hilarious irony, and actor Charleton Heston was wonderful doing it in the 50s-60s era movie “Julius Caesar”! I think the next line was: “I came not to praise Caesar but to bury him”, then he proceeded to do exactly that, to praise him, and turned the sentiment of the Roman people against Brutus!

Et tu Brutus! :~)

Yes, I had eerily similar feeling reading it. The article was simultaneously fawning to Obama in tone and dripping with poison of deep irony in substance.

And let's not forget another classic line from the same play, for we seem to be fast approaching it:

Something that's currently better known as Wag the Dog strategy, courtesy of [recently reformed and converted to conservative thinking] David Mamet.
