I would agree....the rule has been around for at least a decade....maybe even longer. What the IRS now has....is ample analysts to pour over applications and those already in the system, and force you to comply with the rules.

For the Legion, it means you ask the local commander of each unit to simply note the dues-paying members. This is not an impossible task, and the whole project could be complete in two weeks.

There are twenty-nine categories for this tax-free status. So thousands upon thousands of organizations try to sneak in and claim such status when they aren’t legit.

If you don’t like limits on tax-free organizations....you should have told your Senator....because he’s the one amongst many....who wrote thousands of pages of requirements, and created the twenty-nine categories of tax-free status.

And if you think this is the limit....I suspect within the next year that churches will be tasked to provide the same listing.

What’s even worse are the veterans who love to be hated by Obama. There are a bunch of them.

Yet, these same commies don’t want voter ID laws. I swear I am just flabbergasted at their hypocrisy.

It is only a matter of time before fraternal organizations lose not-for-profit status (or worse) because they discriminate. Start handing over records of your members flto the government... what could possibly go wrong?

In the battle between good and evil, we know which side Obama has chosen.

Other than its the IRS I don’t see a problem here. I assume the Legion verifies that folks calling themselves vets are actually Vets

Maybe they’re having trouble weeding out the fake veterans — you know — like Conneticut senator Blumenthal. Or John Fraud Kerry who was in Cambodia before Christmass.

Day-yum, those two are the perfect complements for Mass. senator Lizzie “Liawatha” Warren, fake indian.

(Gee, I wonder why nobody trusts politicians?)

Have been a member of the American Legion for 38 years. When I joined I was on active duty in the Navy. The only proof of service they asked for at that time was my DoD ID card. I have known a lot of individuals that have joined and were required to show a DD-214. Last year a person tried to join our Legion post, but review of his DD-214 indicated that it was forged, he was denied membership. I also have to assume that all Legion posts see proof of service before accepting that person as a member.

dates of service and character of service records for all members

That's ignorant. You can't join without showing a DD214.

It's none of the IRS's business.

“The IRS seems to be auditing veteran service organizations by requiring private member military service forms.”

“If a post is unable or not willing to turn over this personal information, it’s possible they could face a fine of $1,000 per day,” Moran continued.

I think the IRS is demanding the post turn over a hard copy of the member’s the DD-214’s to the IRS so they will have a copy of records during audits and made a permanent part of the master file.

How many VFW’s have already turned over the forms?

How’s oMao’s change working out for us so far?

Couldn’t agree more - I tried for a year ahead of time to retire so I wouldn’t have to serve for one single day with that piece of crap as the Commander in Chief. Almost made it, but I politely refused the piece of paper with his auto-pen chicken-scratch on it.

For the Legion, it means you ask the local commander of each unit to simply note the dues-paying members.

This is all about creating the lists they will need later to identify us.

If you have a concealed carry permit you are on their list. If you bought ammunition with a credit/debit card you are on their list. If you post on FR you are on their list.

This is where the NSA and IRS have evolved.

I know that my father in law was something called a guest member. No military background. But a supporter. This ruling is about closing these organizations for good for there are not enough military to join.
