Casting an eye toward upcoming fiscal fights, President Barack Obama warned Republicans Friday against trying to defund his signature health care law as he vowed to protect spending on education, scientific research and America's infrastructure.
Taking questions from college students in central New York, Obama decried the Republican approach as "penny-wise and pound-foolish," predicting the U.S. will fall further and further behind other nations in decades to come unless it prioritizes creating opportunities for young people.
"When Congress gets back to Washington, this is going to be a major debate," Obama said during a town hall at Binghamton University.
He said it's the same debate he and lawmakers have been having for two years; the difference now is that the U.S. has made progress in cutting deficits.
"My position is going to be that we can have a budget that is sensible, that doesn't spend on programs that don't work, but does spend wisely on those things that are going to help ordinary people succeed," Obama said.
These and other testy issues will come to a head in the fall, when Congress will face deadlines to increase the federal government's borrowing limit and to continue funding the government.
Obama reserved some of his harshest comments for GOP lawmakers seeking a government shutdown over his health care law, arguing that those lawmakers are not offering an economic plan. More than a third of House Republicans are urging their leader to take such a step this fall.
Instead, those lawmakers should focus on the "pocketbook, bread-and-butter" issues that affect Americans, Obama said...

Obama has nothing to worry about. The GOP isn’t going to shut down the government nor defund Obamacare. The GOP leadership is as useless as balls on a priest.

Personally I’d prefer he be forced to veto the CR. The monies in that affect the entire government and the effect would be pretty quick and obvious. Kind of like the sequester on steroids. And since the CR and nobamacare take effect Oct 1, nobamacare would be stopped in its tracks, supposedly.
If the pubs wait to fight over the CR, nobamacare will already be in effect and I imagine it will be much harder to find enough cojones to do what needs to be done.

My rep said last night at his townhall that if they do this on the CR the senate will just strip all the defunding language and send it back. He wants to draw the line at the Debt Ceiling vote. I’d be OK with that if they didn’t cave it but who trusts Boehner? Most people at the townhall were screaming “shut it down”.
You better believe that many (R)s will have had their fill of this worthless party if ObamaCare is funded. I'm 3rd party immediately then & I know others that will follow.

Leave them now. Don't wait. I've already gone independent. I won't vote for "Republicans" even if they are conservative or call themselves conservative. It's the only way to get rid of the Republicans start another, real conservative party, that will take the place of the Republican Party.
The Rinos will move over to the Democrat Party where they have really wanted to be. The Marxist Democrats will not tolerate them and they will be forced out through primary challenges by other Marxist Democrats. Eventually a second, real conservative, real opposition party will formed that will oppose the Marxist onslaught against America. But it won't be easy.

Let’s fund:
Commerce, Justice, and Science;
Defense;
Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies;
and anything else listed in the Constitution.
Then, once those are signed, start negotiating on the wasteful spending and ObamaCare bills.
