We drove in upstate NY, it was no different than any other place in the US. Now if you want to talk about the crazy people driving like a bat out of h@ll on the steep mountains grades in PA, that it might actually get down to a fight for survival there..LOL.

Happens in Memphis as well. We might be friendly, but the natives are the worse drivers. I learned to drive in LA. Drivers Ed was mandatory back in the stone ages.

“And based upon the link to all the results, South Dakota is apparently the most forgotten state.”

I think it is also number one in things like business friendliness. Only number 4 on amount of beer consumed though.

I preferred it when it was called New Amsterdam.

Why they changed it I can't say. People just liked it better that way.

I was born and raised in NYC (and I HATE it, BTW, but that is irrelevant). I would never, never, NEVER have said that to you if you stood aside to let me enter an elevator first. No, what you probably would have gotten was a big smile and a hearty “Thank you!”

In addition, I have raised my sons to be gentlemen who hold doors for ladies, AND to stand when they are approached by a woman. If the women don’t like it, too bad.
Regards,

PS: It is possible (unlikely, but POSSIBLE), that the woman who said that to you was remarking on your unexpected politeness in comparison to NYC men and that her snide tone of voice was directed at THEM, not you: “I guess you’re not from NY (because a NY man would not stand aside).”

NY needs to be defined. The city (including everything up to Dutchess county) and Long Island are tops in rudeness. The rest of it can secede because it’s almost it’s own state with nice people in rural towns and small cities. Even Buffalo (aka “the armpit”) people are nice because you never know when you’ll need someone to push you out of a snowbank.

Forget New England. Never met a more rude lot in my life. If I never see that nasty place again, it’ll be too soon.

Was outside Boston listening to a radio show on travel. Host said “you can make that change with no increase in eah feah.”(air fare.)

The poll questions had respondents choose between “F%@*in’ A” “F%@*in’ B” and “F%@*in C”.
