France, Britain and the US have called an emergency Security Council meeting for Wednesday night 2200 hours (Israeli time) on the alleged Syrian chemical attack which the opposition claims killed 1,300 people. DEBKAfile: Any resolution condemning the Assad regime will be blocked by Russian and Chinese vetoes. Moscow has meanwhile called for “a fair and professional investigation” into the alleged chemical attack

Apparently the job of the arab league is to figure out how to best convince someone else to deal with their internal problems.

I smell a “false flag” operation staged by the rebel New Syrian Army. It makes no sense for Assad to use chemical weapons.

Same suspicion. UN chemical weapons inspectors have just arrived in Syria, so why would Assad stage a large scale weapons attack at the same time? More likely, Obama's terrorist allies have killed some of their own for the cameras.

If that’s the case, which it most certainly is, the story will quickly disappear.

Also from debka:

Israel’s Defense Minister Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon said Wednesday: “The use of chemical weapons by the regime is not a first. Even ousting Bashar Assad will not lead to the end of the Syrian conflict, since there are now battles between different factions in the country.”

That’s actually what I see in the future of Egypt. Lots of factions with their own agendas. Mubarak had them demoralized due to long standing strength but now every group with a manifesto thinks they have a legitimate shot at power.

Kinda like a cycle with a case of the tank slappers. You might ride it for 100 yards or so but she’s goin down.

Why does the security council even bother? We don’t really want to get involved and the Russians will veto anything substantive in any case. It seems rather pointless.

If the al qaeda backed opposition had chemical weapons stockpiles that big, they wouldn’t use them to make a play for international attention.

Part of the Benghazi attack was about the transfer of chemical weapons (from Gaddafi's stockpile). These weapons went from Libya to Turkey. There, CIA (or contractors) were showing the New Syrian Army troops how to handle them and mount chemical warheads on Scud missiles. This was recorded by Russian spy satellites. I suspect, I can't prove it, that the Benghazi attack was orchestrated by the Russians through surrogates to put a shot across Hillary Clinton's and Barry Obama’s bows. If chemical weapons have been used, the first persons to suspect are the rebels. They have the most to gain by pinning weapons use on Assad.

There appears to be an inching towards some sort of foreign intervention in Syria.

Something emotional like a large scale use of chemical weapons with many casualties would help that process along giving a rationale-excuse for Obama and others to get involved.

Hussein Obama is too WEAK to get involved. He will just back down, back up another step, and draw a NEW line in the sand!

Did you realize that “ today’s apparent chemical massacre outside Damascus falls a year to the day from Obama issuing his empty “red line” threat.”

http://hotair.com/archives/2013/08/21/one-year-ago-today-obama-warns-assad-not-to-cross-the-red-line-of-chemical-weapons/

Interesting comments at the link ... such as “ if Zelin’s theory that Assad did this as a middle finger to Obama and the world is correct, the presence of inspectors only makes the defiance sweeter for him, no? Note that the inspectors aren’t free to investigate the new attack either — their movements are restricted to the locations of previous alleged chemical attacks — so it’s not like they’re a threat to find the smoking gun of what just happened.”

thanks to obama’s “reset” with russia i am certain we will have no trouble persuading putin to dump his long time ally.

is obama actually admitting that his “red line” has been crossed? haven’t seen that yet. he usually finds any excuse to prop up these animals as long as possible.

people can say what they will about the Iraq war, but it did have the nice result of bringing about the execution of Saddam Hussein.

Sounds plausible. It was said that the regime was winning, and this took place in the outskirts of Damascus. I didn’t think that the rebels were that close to the capital.

Perhaps.

But, Obama (and his real brain, Valerie Jarrett) is not above staging such an incident to help demonize Assad in world opinion. Obama is a Muslim Brotherhood lover and Jarrett has Iranian sympathies. My money is on the O&J tag team. I really don't think Assad is this stupid. He's a survivor first, and this is like committing suicide.

This is the second time that someone in Syria has crossed the red line drawn by Obama. They better watch out over there. Obama means business. They better not cross the purple line, or the blue line. And then there’s the black line and the white line. And we could take Bo the Wonder Dog and have him pee while running, and hey, that would be a line.

There’s lots of lines. Not that I would want Obama to get involved in the Syrian mess. I just wish he would stay the heck out of it and stop supplying arms to either side. Anything he does will be botched. But he ought not to be drawing lines or threatening action.

No one anywhere takes the U.S. seriously any more after five years of Obama.
