Over 60 churches across Egypt have been targeted by Muslim Brotherhood sympathizers as conflict rages across the country. Nonetheless, Coptic Christians are now returning to their church in Minya, which was burned by raging Islamists. “This will learn us to be better Christians” said Pastor Sameh Ibrahim. Fourteen churches in the area were burned in the past few days. In Minya, Christian churches have been slathered with black Xs to mark them for violence by Islamists.

I stand with the Christians.
And at this point the Egyptian military.
They seem to actually understand the states.
Christians are about 10% of the population. Beyond that, power in Egypt is a numbers game.
The MB has about 37.5% support, or at least did. The Salafists about 17%. However, many Egyptians look down on the Salafists as lower-order Arabs, certainly below the status of Egyptians.
That being said, many Egyptians now distrust democracy, because they figure that the Islamists will get the upper hand and oppress everyone.
Probably the very best thing the military can do right now is to stimulate agriculture as much as they can. If the public can eat, it buys the military a lot of time.

Are the Christians doing anything to counter the violence?
To protect themselves?
They may be vastly outnumbered nationwide but they should be able to round up enough manpower to give some of the maurauding gangs of muzzie crazies a sound thrashing.
