Cruz Will Renounce Canadian Citizenship
The Washington Post ^ | Monday, August 19, 2013 | Aaron Blake

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) announced Monday evening that he will renounce his Canadian citizenship, less than 24 hours after a newspaper pointed out that the Canadian-born senator likely maintains dual citizenship.

“Now the Dallas Morning News says that I may technically have dual citizenship,” Cruz said in a statement. “Assuming that is true, then sure, I will renounce any Canadian citizenship. Nothing against Canada, but I’m an American by birth and as a U.S. senator; I believe I should be only an American.”

“Because I was a U.S. citizen at birth, because I left Calgary when I was 4 and have lived my entire life since then in the U.S., and because I have never taken affirmative steps to claim Canadian citizenship, I assumed that was the end of the matter,” Cruz said.

These days... it's either Texas secedes and we all go there... or we all become Hockey players, Lumberjacks or prostitutes (are there really any other professions in Canada?) and move north, FreeStateProject style and try for USA2 there.

I'd hold up there a while on that one, Ted.

“the Canadian-born senator likely maintains dual citizenship”

Cruz is also Cuban because his father was born there.

He should renounce that too.

No offence, but at this point, take a guy from Mars if he’s an actual conservative and could get elected.

PERFECT!! I was thinking EXACTLY the same thing (I would add "and he'll stand up to the Liberal Establishment" - and they ARE the Establishment now, without question).

Are you an expert on the laws of Cuban citizenship?

Cruz has never had any allegiance to Canada or Cuba.
There is probably some family in Cuba.

“And the children of citizens of the United States that may be born beyond sea, or out of the limits of the United States, shall be considered as natural born citizens”

So clearly Cruz (and McCain) are natural born citizens. And would have been regarded as such by the founding fathers.

This is a likely indicator he will run for President. If not 2016 then 2020.

Woo hoo! I take this as a signal.

Changing my tag line. Actually, adding a tag line. I don't think I've ever had one before.

US Law.

Naturalization is a separate process.

See the US State Department’s Foreign Affairs Manual quoted below:

7 FAM 1131.6-3 Not Citizens by “Naturalization”
(CT:CON-349; 12-13-2010)
Section 201(g) NA and section 301(g) INA (8 U.S.C. 1401(g)) (formerly section 301(a)(7) INA) both specify that naturalization is “the conferring of nationality of a state upon a person after birth.” Clearly, then, Americans who acquired their citizenship by birth abroad to U.S. citizens are not considered naturalized citizens under either act.

So a person born outside of the country to a service member should never be allowed to be president?

Baloney.

Apparently arguing that America should be governed by an American makes one a concern troll.

And in that 8 months he has pissed off ALL THE RIGHT PEOPLE.

In New Jersey, we once said the EXACT. SAME. THING. about Chris Christie if you can believe it.

Actually, there’s lots of professions here- I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you were being facetious. Besides resources, we also export electronics, aircraft, automobiles, tools and a whole whack of other stuff.
