I BELONG TO THE STUPID PARTY
boblonsberry.com ^ | 08/17/13 | Bob Lonsberry

I belong to the stupid party.

I’m a Republican.

We specialize in self-destruction.

The latest example is the recent decision by the Republican National Committee to ban CNN and NBC from covering any debates during the next GOP presidential primaries.

Somehow, in head-up-your-butt land, that makes sense. But out here, in the real world, it’s insane.

And petty, and one more sign that the people running this party are, in scientific terms, frigging idiots.

Here’s the story.

Apparently there is this she-devil named Hillary Clinton who wants to run for president. She’s the one who said we didn’t need more security in Benghazi. She’s the secretary of State who oversaw the greatest reversals of American influence abroad in modern history.

And she’s running for whatever you call a woman president.

And CNN and NBC want to do documentaries or movies or something about her.

They being the liberal media and she being their god, it’s pretty likely the documentaries and movies will be fawning propaganda pieces.

And this has ticked off the morons-in-chief atop my party. So they’ve decided to cut off their nose to spite their face.

They’ve forbad these two networks to cover our presidential primary debates.

Holy mother of what the hell are they thinking.

Let’s take this step by step.

CNN and NBC want to make documentaries and movies about Hillary. I think that’s called freedom of the press. The documentaries and movies will be slanted to make Hillary look good, because of the political bias of CNN and NBS. I still think that’s called freedom of the press.

To me, it is incomprehensible that a party so committed to the Constitution should get its panties in such a bunch because someone else exercises constitutional liberties.

Further, who actually cares what kind of puff piece somebody does on an opposing candidate? Don’t you win elections by having a candidate and a philosophy of your own which are preferred by the people? And in the course of a campaign aren’t there a lot of media products and opinions going every which way?

Isn’t that part of living in, uh, America?

And isn’t it kind of embarrassing to get worked up over it? Doesn’t that bespeak a certain shrillness and immaturity?

Conclusion 1: The Republican Party should ignore the programming decisions of NBC and CNN.

Now, to the debates.

Why do you have debates?

To expose your candidates and principles to the electorate.

How do you expose your candidates and principles to the electorate?

By putting them on TV.

What is it NBC and CNN do again?

Put things on TV.

And you told them they couldn’t put your candidates and principles on TV? And you did this to punish THEM?

Conclusion 2: I belong to the stupid party.

Put another way, how much does a one-minute political commercial cost? In rough terms, it’s about a gazillion dollars. In a televised debate, networks are giving you a couple of hours of free time. Multiply 120 by a gazillion and you get an idea of the value of that.

And the RNC just said it doesn’t want that.

To punish the commie-lib networks.

How do networks make money? By selling advertisements. How many advertisements are there in a televised debate. None. How much money does a network make off a debate. None. If you ban them from the debate, what will they broadcast? Something with commercials, which will make them a lot of money.

So, if you ban NBC and CNN from covering your debate, you lose airtime and they make money.

And you think this punishes them.

Probably, they’ll run their Hillary shows opposite your debate and draw a bigger audience.

Or you might find that in swatting two networks you have angered them all. Let’s say at their next socialist conspiracy meeting all the other alphabet networks decide to stand in solidarity with CNN and NBC. Say they call it journalistic integrity and declare that if all reporters aren’t welcome, no reporters will come. That if one networks is banned, all networks will boycott.

At that point, you are officially screwed.

And by “you,” I mean America.

Because as stupid as the people in charge of the Republican Party are, the principles of the Republican Party are this country’s only chance. This isn’t about winning elections, it’s about saving the country.

And you can’t do that if you let yourself be drawn into asinine fights over who broadcasts what.

Preach liberty, accountability and small government. Campaign for freedom and against the EBT. Stand for America and its founding documents. Raise Liberty’s torch high again.

And try not to be a frigging idiot.

I would prefer less Candy Crowley and more Mark Steyn or Megan Kelly.

Um, Bob. Yes, the GOP IS the stupid party. But when they do something right, like OWNING their primaries rather than letting the DNC-run media owning them, don't call them stupid for that! Who's head is where?

I belong to the stupid party.

If so, you are certainly in the right place.

This couldn’t be more wrong. This is probably the best move I’ve ever seen the RNC make. We play our entire primary and the general election by our opponents rules and in sports analogies, essentially give them the ball at our 20 yard line. We use only left-wing debate moderators and let their side set the rules. When it is a primary debate, our guys are playing defensively because of the questions. In the general, it is like our candidate is on trial. I love this move, and hope to see more of it.

Was CNN and NBC any worse than the rest of them? Like ABC?

I recall Chris Wallace asking a row of candidates ‘yes’ or ‘no’ if as POTUS they would accept 10$ in spending cuts for 1$ in tax increases and they all said no, which told the audience that none of them would ever cut spending, or cared about the deficit. Just a bunch of GWBs.

This essay is idiotic.

What does Bob propose? More of the same?

But, yes, the GOP is the stupid party. Shunning these debates happens to be one of the very rare correct steps they happen to make.

This guy is a closet liberal.

And - as such - let’s shove him back in the closet and throw away the key.

We conservatives either start playing hardball like the lib-O-crats, or just give up.

The last Republican primaries were what was dumb. A circular suicide/assassination spectacle in several rounds. The Republican candidates were happy to kill each other by the time the election took place. The whole format and setting and moderators and everything about these debates was in the interests of the Democratic Party and not the Republican Party. The Republican Party needs a whole new set of leaders.

Hopefully the talk show /columnist types will blow their leftist was early this time. So far so good.

These are the people who make it OK for people to keep voting RINO, calling it ‘conservative’ and then thinking it eas while America burns.

Actually Bob, not only is Prince Rebus correct about this, the next step would be to make the all primaries closed except to Republicans. NO MORE OPEN PRIMARIES.

Bob, if you believe this why are you still a party member?
Personally, I don’t think wanting to play in a crooked
game is much of a starter for me. I watched the last
series and was disgusted through every one.

Wake up and turn the tables bob.

Someone explain how a party with an open primary “IS” a party.

I wanna see it in detail.

Obama has picked up on that concept -- the party of stupid.

This morning the newsies are running a clip of Obama blaming the Republicans for all the problems and delays with -- Obamacare.

So what if not one Republican voted for that monstrosity.

So what if Pelosi had to get it passed before she could even read it to find out what was in it.

So what if Obama has been delaying parts of Obamacare unilaterally, and possibly illegally, without Congressional approval.

Response from the GOP leadership: {crickets chirping}

By the end of the day the LIV will 'know' that the Republicans are to blame for all the Obamacare ills -- and higher premiums, etc.

Not to worry, Rove and the other Elites and advisors still get their paychecks.

Not to worry, Congress gets its exemption from Obamacare.

Not to worry, "God's in his heaven; all's right with the world," from Pippa's Song by Robert Browning.

This is where Lonsberry is wrong. The Republican Party is a private organization and not a governmental agency.

It can protest whatever the heck it feels like, and if it protests fawning media siding with socialist politicians, then it's their business.

Priebus might be wrong lots of times, but his slamming the media for their absolute bias toward Hillary is not one of those times.

And after so many "moderators" have boldly undercut his candidates in THE MIDDLE OF debates (Candy Crawley the most recent), then he is right to disinvite them.

And someone who wants to watch a debate will watch it on the channel showing it.
