Iraq Violence: Baghdad Asks For US Help

Baghdad seeks renewed assistance from the US as bomb attacks and the threat from al Qaeda increase across Iraq.

Iraq has asked the United States for new help to fight extremists in the country less than two years after it forced American troops to withdraw.

The request follows a resurgence of violence across Iraq and a renewed threat from al Qaeda extremists.

The White House has largely turned its attention away from Iraq since US forces left in 2011.

But the country has recently been hit with deadly bombings at a rate reminiscent of Iraq's darkest days, stoking new fears of a civil war.

More than 1,000 Iraqis were killed in terror-related attacks in July, the deadliest month since 2008.

The violence has spurred Baghdad to seek new US aid to curb the threat, said Iraqi Foreign Minister Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari.

He said a US assistance package could include a limited number of advisers, intelligence analysis and surveillance assets including lethal drones.

I suggest they go private and hire a Blackwater type operation

Iraq forced U.S. troops to withdraw? I thought Obama took the opportunity to unilaterally pull them out.

No SOFA = no GI's. If Iraq wants that aid, we need a SOFA. Ultimately, Maliki, not Obama, was to blame. At bottom, it wasn't really even Maliki. It was the Iraqi electorate. They thought of the war as US fighting the insurgents. If we weren't there, the theory was that the war would end. Just goes to show that Arabs will believe anything, as long as they can point the finger of blame at somebody else. This is how they simultaneously believe 9/11 was a great victory for Muslims and a Bush plot.

That request takes uber-hutzpah. Shouldn’t the whacky iraqis solve their country’s problems. Since moozlum is a “peaceful religion”, can’t everyone ther just get along? If not...tough s***.

Of course we can send in advisers — send in the LBGT crowd to fix things right away — that will teach the Iraqis (plus it will give the militants in the LBGT gang some REAL combat experience). The “straights” can stand down for this operation. It’s called “culling the herd”.

Sorry, those who flaunt perverse acts on the roof of the embassy in their Babylonian paradise don’t deserve air cover.

ESAD FOAD, boo hoo for you.

I was there when they were doing everything in their power to get rid of us. I was there as they were doing nothing but coming to the US with their hand’s out for money and then going back home to hand out with the Iranians.

F**k them. You asked for it. You deal with it.

I, for one, am glad that there are no more troops. IF they were there, than all of this violence would be directed toward them and those booger-eaters don’t deserve those sacrifices. Nor have they ever.

We never should have invaded Iraq.

A war on terror will never be won. First of all, it should be a war on Islam. Second, we’re not willing to do what must be done in order to win.

Finally, I thought obama said he had won the war in Iraq.

Well, it is time for Iraqi leaders to grow up and start acting responsibly - full SOFA like anyone else, no more cheap shots for domestic consumption, pay cash for goods and services rendered, say thank you, start providing intel on the Iranians as well as the Sunni Jihadis, and energetically do the actual fighting/dying themselves.

Otherwise, we can pop more popcorn and watch them burn. That would be gratifying after all the ungrateful bullshit and indignities we endured to give them their freedom from Saddam. I except the Kurds from this generalization. God bless the Kurds. I hope that we always maintain an honorable alliance with them, and support them in their security needs.

Is the Fighting 69th also known as the Lucky Ladies Brigade, the Fighting Fannies, or the Rootin’ Tootin’ Butt Brigade?
