Congress can regulate SS with regards to age, benefit amounts, who is entitled to spousal benefits, etc, despite being "earned".
If Congress can do that with "earned" benefits, what's to stop them from imposing other regulations on recipients?
How does that matter with regard to governmental authority?
If Congress can force SS and Medicare on you, then what's to stop it from from imposing conditions on you in order to receive those benefits?
Your reasoning smacks of more government intrusion into people’s lives. You call yourself a conservative? If so, then I suggest you do some critical thinking before trying to impose more rules and regulations on people. If this is your stance, then you might be better off at DU or Huffington Post with those who want to rule over others and tell them how to live.
To throw a little wood on the fire, all women who are getting ANY government money, Pell grants, section 8, WICS EBTS, small business loans, etc, should be required to get abortions if they get pregnant, or lose the benefits they already get!
If they could afford a child, then they obviously don’t need government aid.
That does not make sense. My reasoning just shows what follows when you cede more power to government.
If you support government authority to require people to give up basic constitutional rights to receive welfare, then you have no principled argument against similar intrusions in other programs that government created and regulates - like SS and Medicare.
I want to abolish all such programs not in keeping with the Constitution. Click on my name to see my outlook on such matters.
If you support government authority to require people to give up basic constitutional rights in order to receive welfare,
LOL! Good one!
not opposed to people getting food stamps to “feed their kids”
opposed to food stamps being used to buy junk food and other luxuries and being accepted at race tracks and the like
we all know that abuse is a problem, we have all seen it, and it is not hard to fix
a govt that can dictate what your kid gets served for lunch can dictate what healthy foods food stamps can buy. we can all break the code on moochelle Obama’s fixation on obesity - it aint rich white people
What you want and what you’ll get are 2 different things. Let’s see now - how can provide for the general welfare +written in the Preamble and in Article 1 Section 8 of the Constitution be interpreted?
I’m just messing with you. Of course, these words don’t mean welfare, but try to convince low information voters of this fact. They hear the word welfare - and their lights go on.
This is a very deep subject and I’m not going to waste any more time on it. If people would help out others less fortunate on a daily basis - then perhaps there would be no need for government programs. But, alas - this isn’t the case. People hoard for themselves and that isn’t the Christian thing to do either. So when people aren’t charitable toward others - government steps in.
These programs - like them or not - aren’t going any where unless they go broke.
How a person spends his SS money isn’t really your or anyone else’s business, now is it? People are just getting a crappy return on monies paid into this ponzi scheme.
To get a military ID card or dependent card, you have to be fingerprinted.
To work as a nurse at a hospital or assisted care facility, you have to be fingerprinted.
To be in the military, you have to be fingerprinted (and submit a DNA sample as well).
To work as a teacher or a teacher's aid at a school (in most states), you have to be fingerprinted.
I hate the whole thing, as we are marching at warp speed to the Mark of the Beast. But that WILL happen, it isn't fiction. God's Word tells us that we all will be under control of a worldwide system, where we cannot even buy, sell, or do any financial transaction without the mark.
If you stick your finger in a hole in the dike - it will just spew forth from another. There will always be ways for those who are prone to fraud to find the loopholes.
Moochelle isn’t a nutritionist and doesn’t need to stick her big nose in what kids eat. Sure some buy junk foods with food stamps, but I’ve seen people with carts of nutritious food as well. Seems like some on here just focus on the negatives. And, like I’ve said - when you point a finger at someone else, you have 3 pointing back at you. Jesus in essence said - why do you try to remove a toothpick from someone else’s eye when you have a telephone pole in your own? There might come a day when you’ll need food stamps. I wouldn’t be so quick if I were you, to judge others and dictate what they can and can’t do.
Some of you Freepers who claim to be for small government sure want to get into the dictatorship side of things. This borders on hypocritical to me.
The problem is, they already do it to "everybody." If you are a nurse, a teacher, or in the military (all honorable professions), you most likely have already had to submit to a fingerprinting session like a criminal.
If you are a gun owner in some states, you have to submit to a fingerprinting like a criminal.
It is the law abiding that they have already gone after.
The takers seem to be skating - they can commit vote fraud in huge numbers because they argue against showing a simple ID to vote (whereas you have to show one to get on an airplane, purchase alcohol, drive, etc).
Nanny Bloomberg is disgusting to me: soft drinks, guns, etc, are none of his business.
Nanny Bloomberg has too much free time on his hands. Let’s not forget that the “wonderful” people of NY elected him for 3 terms? (I think it was). So, they voted for the dictator and now they complain. Libs are libs - NY is a lost cause anyway. There are pockets of conservatism, but just like any other state - the large urban, liberal areas control the politics of the entire state.
What I resent are the generations of wasted lives who do nothing for a living and who I ‘get’ to help take care of because the government has taught them it is easier to do nothing than it is to work. Food stamps are a huge area of fraud and waste. What I suggested was random drug testing for food stamp recipients. I have had to do such for places where I was gainfully employed. Those who are ungainfully receiving public dollars should have no problem with it. And now that you mention it, why should I ‘have to’ take care of someone else’s children? The Lord loves a cheerful giver, not someone coerced at the end of an IRS audit. I prefer to help people I know, not strangers who may or may not be doing anything decent with the money they receive.
lol...Thanks for the correction.
Good idea, but ACLU will jump on this issue in favor of the criminal elements that inhabit public housing projects.
Knew someone would step forward in support of more of a dictatorship/ police state than we already have.
Some of you Freepers who claim to be for small government sure want to get into the dictatorship side of things.
Got that right. There are more than a couple FReepers that want the Constitution burned and a full scale dictatorship/police state established.
“Take the King’s Coin, Do the King’s Bidding.”
It has always been thus.
