Posted on 08/16/2013 6:42:04 PM PDT by Nachum
The Washington Post´s article detailing the fourth amendment abuses by the NSA got some push back from the administration who attempted to "edit" the article before publication. The internal audit referenced in the article was obtained by the WaPo from Edward Snowden. The details of the audit indicated repeated and growing privacy violations by the NSA, violations which included obtaining thousands of American citizen´s communications records and using methods of information collection that were later deemed unconstitutional by a court. The Post was able to interview John Delong, NSA director of compliance for the article and they were initially

WaPo rebuffed MiniTrue?
Overseers? Did anyone else catch that in the letter/proposed language?
The Washington Post acting like a real newspaper? Well guess stranger things have happened....
So..... What ARE they trying to coverup?
I wonder if Jeff Bezos, a D.C. outsider, is going to put up with this kind of shiite.

“The Washington Post acting like a real newspaper?”
Jeff Bezos now owns the place. And he calls himself a libertarian. Things are about to get very interesting.
Time for Room 101.
Most here will get the reference, but not many offsite will.
How long until the Eye from The Handmaid’s Tale is put on the WaPo?
“So..... What ARE they trying to coverup?”
my 2 cents -— This is trouble enough. Obama Adm already had the WaPo story BEFORE Obama came out with comments to “reform” the NSA to make Americans feel “comfortable” with the program. He was trying to get out in front of the WaPo story.
I heard one commentator say how unusual that a president would want to limit his powers with such a suggestion. LOL, we know THAT’s not the case with Obama.... SO....
Did you see the article (also on Greta, last night I think) about FISA court comments about-— paraphrasing-— garbage-in, garbage-out. I.E, the court can only rule on the evidence presented to them and they have NO CONTROL over how, or what happens after that. NONE!
IMO, NSA is necessary in some form, but Obama Adm so recklessly and tyrannically disregards the law and the Constitution, all trust is lost.
Also, going deeper, those 1000s of violations, I am curious about the dates! A timeline! That may expose a deeper panic the Obama Adm is trying to cover up with their current suggestions and promises.
Yes....they were talking about their own internal overseers.
What difference does it make?
First off, it is a Friday night news dump, so by Monday it will be gone.
Second, Republicans are squish. Obama should have been on his 3rd year in prison right now.
Every phone and data pipe into and out of the place is probably so full of NSA ears and eyeballs at the moment that bandwidth and quality is suffering.
I’m sure all media outlets have been for quite some time.
Recently CNN and the like admitted that they sent stories to MiniTrue for approval.
Notice how the MSM news brushed over the order by the FISA Court to the NSA to destroy 3,000 files which the NSA did not do. The thousands of “inadvertently” accessed communications were for the most part not inadvertent. This is a typical end run around the rules by blaming it on error. This is a serious business so if this was on the up and up there would be thousands of firing or demotions .... which there were obviously none .... it was a ruse.
What I can't figure out is why a Democrat party propaganda organ like the Washington post would diss its White House masters for the first time? It's weird. I'm sure they're scratching their heads at the White House, too, even as they plot revenge.
I am just waiting for one of these geniuses to figure out they can actually make money but doing ACTUAL journalism!
A jaded ARROGANT phrase uttered by a jaded, arrogant, corrupt and bought woman in a context meant to deflect responsibility and culpability---only to be usefully mimicked by conservatives, IMO, in a satirical context.
Remember her false-choice preface to that statement? IMO, that statement (and the preface--- especially the give-away preface) was a memorized retort in the Hillary prep folder waiting for the opportune time to pull it out.
Did I misunderstand you? You seem to be using the phrase as a conservative admission of defeat. Grim as the realities are (see my tagline), IMO, the fat lady hasn't sung....yet. Until then, my constitution drives me to fight on in the arena of opinion, substantiated by facts.
Wild guess. Maybe Bezos over-paid by $200M so he could cut all editorial ties with the Graham family and run a legit newspaper? Not likely, I know, but one can dream.
It’s a backhanded admission that the story was edited by the MiniTrue.
Even if it’s a vanity project for Bezos, he’s going to try to make it work.
This is like having a fox watching the foxes in the hen house.
Does anyone realize that there are 1700 Federal Judges and 3600 total Federal Judges and Magistrates. Put them on call, give them a bleeping Obama phone.
There is no reason for Anyone,,, to watch or listen to,,, Anything,,, without a warrant.
Moreover, this spying is also on federal officials, Judges and representatives which gives us better understanding of Judge Roberts position on Obama care.
Chicago Politics at its best.
Ministry of Love audits WaPo
Sure. My sense of Bezos is that he swings left but still he’s a businessman. Most liberal businessmen aren’t like Soros.
Unngh, didn’t think of that one.

i tried to locate this reference. I must have missed the obvious. Can you point me to the link for this?
See also post 13. What powers does the court have to determine that its orders have been faithfully executed?
The big name newspapers are in so deep they don’t know they are bringing down the freedom of the press.
“Journalist Michael Hastings Was Investigating CIA Director John Brennan Before He Was Killed in Fiery Car Crash”
Send that idea about the timeline to someone who can find out. Maybe breitbart or Greta wire.
Think you may be on to something. Convenient mistakes
Republicans are Ball-Less
Who is MiniTrue??
Ministry of Truth in newspeak from George Orwell’s 1984.
Their job was to “audit” the history and news so that it fit the official party line.
The original info.. Down the memory hole.
Thanks. Never read it....just LIVING it.
Even though some (at WaPo) are leftwing, they can not stand the cozy (and absolutely unhealthy) relationship between their colleagues (including journalists from other outlets) and Obama admin.
Now that Obama is helplessly floundering even more so than his previous 5 years, let loose the ‘Obama tried to interfere’ is but a small taste of their disgruntling.
Everyone should really read 1984. A short and compelling read. I read it again this past year and the similarities are downright spooky.
This admin seems to base everything it does off of that book! It is uncanny. Orwell never meant it as an instruction manual.
Welcome, we all are living it now.
I feel all better now. Why, this is even better than that pesky old 4th amendment. That doesn't even mention "overseers". Who doesn't like overseers?
Michael Hastings was “Breitbarted”.
Good point. A reporter that steps on certain toes or upsets the apple cart of the powers that be, can and will be Breitbarted. Fiery car crashes on deserted highways or heart attacks are easily created by operatives inside or outside of government. I’ve always been suspicious of George Carlin’s death too because he could be a very effective thorn in the side of the political elite and PTB.
It would take very little to save newspapers...
