Obama faces Dem backlash over latest NSA revelations

The Obama administration faced a backlash from congressional Democrats on Friday following revelations that the National Security Agency broke privacy rules and overstepped its authority thousands of times since 2008.

The details were reported late Thursday in The Washington Post, based on an audit and other secret documents provided by NSA leaker Edward Snowden. The report challenged claims by President Obama just last week that the NSA was not abusing its authority, and complicated his effort to reassure Americans and Congress that -- with a little more oversight and transparency -- the surveillance programs are nothing to be worried about.

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi called the latest reports "extremely disturbing."

Rep. Mike Thompson, D-Calif., a member of the House Intelligence Committee, said: "Reports that the NSA repeatedly overstepped its legal boundaries, broke privacy regulations and attempted to shield required disclosure of violations are outrageous, inappropriate and must be addressed."

Pelosi will wave her hands, frown a lot, and propose perfectly meaningless legislation about this. Inside every progressive is a totalitarian.

I am hoping for a candle in the darkness here. Pelosi and other Democrats are starting to understand that the Obama administration has dirt on EVERY POLITICIAN!

One of the talking point was area code 202 typed in the computer instead of country code 20.

Yeah, right.

In other words just another day for Pelosi. I wonder if she has found a way to funnel money to husband through this?

The minute Obama starts to hurt, permanently hurt, the Democrat party, Joe and Harry and Nancy will make that long walk to the back door of the White House to tell Obama that he’s sick.

Will not forget Michele Bachmann saying to Beck that she had no proof the NSA EVER violated any secrecy laws, and defending them.

They must have something on her, or her family. I don't buy the reason she gave for not running for office again.

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi called the latest reports "extremely disturbing."

You mean the same Pelosi Galore who drove many Dems to vote against a bill defunding the NSA if it spied upon Americans? Talk is very cheap.

NSA is a highly capable tool. It directs its efforts according to the orders it receives from its leadership which, in this case, definitely includes His Wonderfulness.

Yep, her entire statement and reasoning seemed odd. Something wasn’t right about it.

Democratic voters with anything like a functioning brain (and yes, they DO exist) will clearly understand here that the reins of that machinery won’t always be in Dem hands. This is NOT going away. And, it’s starting to hurt business; all US hardware and software manufacturers, a few already under suspicion, are getting re-evaluated in Europe and Asia because of the assumption of the existence of backdoors. And here, we were pointing the finger at China...!
