Immigration-overhaul advocates make big August push (Beware of invaders bearing "asylum" claims)

An unusual alliance of advocates — including Internet moguls and evangelicals, representatives of big business and labor unions — is working across the country during the August congressional recess in an all-out push for immigration reform.

Beware of invaders bearing "asylum" claims

The Obama administration and other amnesty pushers had been ridiculously claiming for some time that illegal "immigration" was down to almost zero. The amnesty crowd vociferously maintained that almost all illegal border crossings had dried up and thus the border was "secure". Obviously, they hadn't been to Southern California lately.

The torrent of illegal border crossers there has gotten so huge that ICE, facing overcrowded conditions in their San Ysidro and Otay Mesa processing centers, is renting $99-per-night hotel rooms to accommodate the sudden surge of so-called "immigrant" "families", while others were discharged to (likely) bogus addresses in Florida, Texas and New York. (I'm sure Sheriff Arpaio would happily welcome these border crossers to his lovely tent city.)

In addition to encouragement from Marco Rubio's Senate amnesty bill, the new horde of "immigrant" "families" got trained, in a kind of "Cloward-Piven" strategy, to overwhelm the system. They were instructed to try to get asylum by using certain key words and phrases, such as "credible fear" of the Mexican drug cartels -- and of course, "Viva Obama".

The poor dears feel oppressed in their native countries because over there they lack all of the essentials -- a U.S. Social Security number, California driver's license, affirmative action bennies, U.S. work card and U.S.-issued travel documents so they can visit their horribly "oppressive" homelands and return to the U.S. at will.

Since there are no detention facilities for "families" (the feds don't want to "break up" "families"), these "families" are released on bail. Upon their release, they get a court date to prove their "asylum" claims, but they never come back.

Up to 200 border crossers had, at one point, sought political "asylum" in a 24-hour period. All of this comes following the (by now) universally publicized publicity stunt of "The Dream 9", an "activist" group who used bogus asylum claims to return to the U.S., thus sullying the innocent reputation of all invaders with false asylum claims.

But it's not just recently either. "Requests for asylum" in the U.S. "have nearly quadrupled in the last five years, mostly due to claims by immigrants coming from El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala," reports the AP, citing "internal figures from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement."

USCIS Associate Director, Joseph Langlois, in draft testimony "that was to be submitted for a congressional hearing on asylum requests last month," points out that "USCIS received more than 19,119 asylum requests through the end of May," the AP reports, adding that "the agency anticipates receiving more than 28,600 by the end of the fiscal year." This is up from 5,369 asylum requests during the 2009 budget year.

Seeing his amnesty bill languishing in the House, Marco Rubio, as part of his newest scare tactic, is now warning Republicans that if they don't cave on amnesty and legalize 11,000,000 law breakers, "this president will be tempted ... to issue an executive order as he did for the Dream Act kids a year ago, where he basically legalizes 11 million by the sign of a pen."

The problem with this "sign of a pen" argument is that the pen in question's been pretty busy lately, setting aside laws, re-writing laws, postponing laws, inventing laws, re-writing deadlines, extending deadlines, erasing deadlines, handing out waivers, you name it. All in the sign of a pen. If you're Rubio, it's exceedingly odd that the main thrust of your case for passing more laws is that Obama selectively enforces laws, so let's pass more laws because Obama'd never ever selectively enforce the new ones he doesn't like. By all means, let's rush through more laws for him to ignore. In his own goofy way, Rubio's driving home the very point opponents of amnesty have been painstakingly making, all while Rubio's been mesmerized by Obama's pen. Workplace e-Verify system? Gone in a sign of a pen. Billions of bucks for border security? Gone in a sign of a pen. Twenty thousand new enforcement agents? Gone, and not just in a sign of Obama's pen. John McCain told a union gathering recently that "we don't need 20,000 additional border enforcement agents" and that the only reason he voted for this provision he says we don't need is to "comfort" the gullible ol', fellow RINO chumps in the Senate that the border will be secured by this ineffective provision.

And juxtapose all of the mess above with this: In an interview with Fox News, Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. Dakota Meyer, who recovered the bodies of four dead Americans in Afghanistan's Ganjgal Valley, spoke out on behalf of a fellow comrade still stuck in Afghanistan. He's an Afghan translator who fought alongside Meyer. He goes only by the name "Hafez" because he's now a major target of the Taliban for having helped Sgt. Meyer that day in September, nearly four years ago, during a major Taliban ambush. Hafez has been trying for 3 years to get a special visa to live in America, but no luck so far, likely because he isn't a Mexican making phony asylum claims after illegally sneaking into Southern California.

"Hafez was with me the entire time," said Sgt. Meyer, "he is such a great man."

Pssst! Hey, Rubio? During your next strategy session with your buddy Obama, how about mentioning Hafez?

Anyway, that's...
My Two Cents...
