This is not AF1, but it shows the regard President Ford had for Liberty. He used to get up at midnight to walk Liberty if she wanted it. He had no "Reggie" to look after the needs of his dog. He cared for her himself.

The Dog is the only one of the bunch worthy of any respect.Well, if anything were to happen, at least the dog would be safe, being surrounded by Marines.
That and the dog probably gets some actual human contact while on the ride.
