DeMint to Newsmax: Defund Obamacare, No Matter the Risk to GOP
Newsmax ^ | Thursday, 08 Aug 2013 04:35 PM | Jim Meyers and John Bachman

Heritage Foundation President and former U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint tells Newsmax that the House should defund Obamacare no matter what the risk to the Republican Party, even if it leads to a government shutdown.

The South Carolina Republican also says the Affordable Care Act will do more damage to the nation “than anything I’ve seen pass in my lifetime.”

And he insists, in an exclusive interview Thursday with Newsmax TV, that a path to citizenship for illegals constitutes amnesty and opposing immigration reform won’t necessarily hurt the GOP. …

Well, thanks for staying in the Senate and mitigating the damage that Linda Grahamnesty has been doing. (Oh wait.)

What risk to the GOP?

Repeal seems to be one of the few bi-partisan issues.

Oh stop! DeMint does more good in the Heritage Foundation than the corrupt Senate.
This will show just who are the real conservatives and who is on the take. RINO Lindsay will lose in SC...you just watch.

The GOP has to make a stand here and now or they’re going down.

Repeal a bipartisan issue?

Not hardly!

GOP is standing alongside their Brother Rats in Congress to assure themselves that THEY will never be forced to swallow this Obamacare abomination, but if they stand up and say NO, and Obama uses that to shut down the government - they "might be blamed (according to Rove and other Bush traitors to liberty)" and lose another election.

With the RNC's choice of candidates, losing "another election" is pretty much guaranteed!

Why not just stand up and do the right thing for the people of America, regardless of your next election???

You don't think Tim Scott has ably done his part for the Conservative cause? And DeMint has done great work promoting conservatism at the Heritage Foundation.

Sounds like wishful thinking. Also makes it sound like DeMint was up to no good in the Senate.

It’s easy to speak from the sidelines. If one is actually in the Senate, one can filibuster and put one’s money where one’s mouth is. If Reid threatens ye olde “nuclear option”, then shut the government down. That doesn’t take away from Scott one whit.

Yep, the GOP is a deer in the headlights right now.

Your move GOP, choose wisely.

Sometimes risks have to be taken to do the right thing. But today’s risk-averse GOP shies away from risk. Repubs prefer the safety of the “big tent” while praising itself for being “open minded.”

Almost everyone and their brother wants it to go the way of the Edsel. The only wants that want it are the kool aid drinkers at DU.

Well too bad Jim is not Speaker of the House. John Boehner has likely already cut a secret deal with the Senate to conference their bill at the last minute and jam amnesty through the House.

There is no way the GOP leadership in the HOuse is going to defund Obamacare. Even though they should.

STOP THE POLITICS AND DO THE RIGHT THING.

That is the best “politics” of all. It once made America great.

The two greatest existential dangers to the US are creeping communism, represented by ObamaCare, and wholesale dissolution of the nation, represented by amnesty. The GOPe, and even some of our conservative allies, are ok with these as long as their cushy sinecures and DC social calendars are not disrupted. They resent Tea Party types focussing on these issues and forcing the craven, feckless politicians that they are into making uncomfortable and, especially, public decisions. They’d rather go-along-to-get-along than face the agitprop manufactured ‘outrage’ of the left. It is time they feared the wrath of the American people more.

I hear what you're saying but DeMint's replacement, Sen. Tim Scott has been casting DeMint-like votes, or better, from a S.C. conservative's POV. And DeMint was speaking about the House.

Once again, I have urged my congressman, Trey Gowdy, to resist voting for any piecemeal immigration legislation, even his own bill.

Trey Gowdy is usually a pretty righteous guy. Hopefully he will not get sucked into the DREAM act carpola and then on down the lane to total amnesty.
