If Councilman Nick Mosby has his way, Baltimore government would boycott Florida-based businesses in protest to the state's stand-your-ground law after George Zimmerman's acquittal.
Mosby intends to file a resolution on Monday to encourage city agencies and investment boards to avoid doing business with companies in the Sunshine State. He hopes that would pressure the legislature there to rethink a law that allows individuals to use lethal force, if necessary, to defend themselves in public places.
The resolution also calls on city officials to avoid traveling to Florida or attending events in the state.
"Ultimately, the purpose of the legislation is to call to attention to an issue I think is very severe, and is not just a Florida issue but an American issue," Mosby said. "I never want to see another Trayvon Martin again in my lifetime, nor do I want to see another policy that exacerbates the social issues we have in this country."
Jurors cleared Zimmerman in the death of Trayvon Martin last month, which ignited nationwide protests. The jurors concluded that Zimmerman was acting in self-defense in Feburary 2012 when he fatally shot Martin, 17, inside a gated community in Florida.
Mosby's resolution says the state's stand-your-grand law is applied "subjectively and inconsistently" and allows individuals with guns to act as "vigilantes."(continued)

Fact: Stand your ground had no part in this case. It was straight up self defense

So Mr. Mosby, fact or color of skin? I will judge the content of your character by your answer.
DC used to be the murder capital of America. Over the past five years....Baltimore moved into the spot. For this guy to worry about Florida...he has to be completely blind to the shootings and murders in his own city....but it’s black on black, and that’s ok.
No more orange juice for Baltimore. Hope they enjoy the scurvy.
Maybe Florida should boycott Baltimore since it isn’t safe for white people to ride the city’s buses. A black Baltimore police officer told a white commuter to stay off the buses for her own safety.
They ~are~ scurvy bums.
And, the idiocy continues. SYG was NOT a factor in the Zimmerman trial, nor was racism.
Unfortunately, the two classes of people who DON'T know that are:
Race-baiters
morons.
Each of us can decide which one Mr. Mosby is.
(I vote the latter!)
Florida needs to “boycott” the ***holes in Baltimore. Two can play that game.
What amazes me is that these elected officials are just plain stupid with regards to this case. It shows me they are also lazy because they haven’t done their own research on the facts - they merely turned on the alphabet stations and got their daily dose of misinformation.
This is ridiculous anyway- these people need to move on and take care of their own crime-ridden neighborhoods.
I can’t be sure, but I’d be willing to bet they won’t be missed. Sooooo, carry on wit yo boycott o the Sunshine state.
These boycotts only make Florida look more attractive.
Hmmm...would the Orioles have to forfeit all remaining games with Tampa Bay? That may be my Yankee’s only chance at a Wild Card spot this year...
What a gift for Florida!
Please, Nick, STAY AWAY.
Yes, stay home in your hell hole and the people in Florida will be better off.
Funny FL put Obama in the White House
Being a Florida resident and seeing who all wants to boycott my state, I consider this not a bad thing but a good example of self-cleaning trash.
I guess the Balti-morons want Florida to adopt the Balti-moron rule for surviving a stroll through downtown
Instead of “stand your ground”, it’s “run like hell”
feral packs are roaming Baltimore with increasing impunity, I would never be down there at night and even daytime is becoming chancy unless you stick to a crowd. And the only place the news about rasist beatings is reported is talk radio like WCBM
So wth does his moral superiority over FL come from?
