Sen. Eddie Lucio, the only Democrat in the Texas state senate to support the new law banning abortions after 20 weeks of gestation, says hell continue to push for a requirement for women to complete an adoption course before having an abortion.
Lucio first proposed the measure in July. The Texas legislature is in a special third session due to failure to pass a transportation bill. If Lucios proposal isnt added to the agenda, which it isnt likely to be, he said he will refile his bill early in the 2015 session.
In 2007, there were only 1,302 infant adoptions and more than 81,000 abortions, according to a National Council for Adoption study. Lucio believes his bill, if made law, would increase the number of infant adoptions.

My wife and I raised 4 children, successfully, to adulthood then adopted 2 more, this idiot thinks we need classes on how to raise children?
Guess I shoulda read the article first.
I never do! ;-)
Headline is misleading...He wants the class for those seeking abortion... and a Democrat at that he was the only one that voted with the Republicans when the Texas state Govt passed the new abortion bill.
Since we’re collectively tossing out mandates to the healthcare industry willy nilly, wouldn’t it be amazing if a couple who were unable to have children were allowed to put a pregnant mother and her child on their insurance plan if they agreed to adopt the child?
How many abortions might we avert with something like that?
Of course, it wouldn’t be without it’s complications...
A mandatory adoption class for someone wanting to kill their baby? Sounds good to me. It’s an extreme rarity I ever agree with any democrat about anything, but here it is...
Now THAT is great, outside-the-box thinking! Careful, though...you're going to get some hostile responses from the left over that one.. you're threatening the prime "sacrament" in the church of liberalism!
Much of Sen. Lucio’s district overlaps what used to be parts of ex-congressman Solomon Ortiz’ congressional distric (TX-27). Ortiz had always run as a pro-life, pro-gun rights Democrat. In 2010, Blake Farenthold blasted Ortiz for the pro-abortion parts of the Obamacare bill Ortiz voted for. Blake ended up getting quite a few Hispanics to vote for him and defeated the most senior member of the Texas congressional delegation. Not only that, but his son, Solomon Ortiz, Jr. lost his reelection bid for his seat in the legislature from Nueces county. Also another legislator, Abel Hererro, narrowly lost reelection in an adjoining district.
As a result of the 2010 census, Nueces county lost 1 of its 3 legislative districts, and Hererro won back a seat in his new district. The legislature drew Blake a Republican leaning district 27 which he won comfortably in 2012.
Abel Hererro also voted for the bill tightening restrictions on abortion providers.
An actual pro-life democrat?! I thought those were extinct?!
Not everywhere. But, then again, most the political prostituites up north consider this part of the country to be 'backards'.
We all do that from time to time. Your human is showing. Lol
put a pregnant mother and her child on their insurance plan

Before Obama made healthcare impossible for low income workers my wife used to do exactly that , hiring pregnant women that needed healthcare ... of course that was in a LARGE nationwide corp that had “DAY ONE” healthcare available.
I’m not sure if I’m for this or not but I would be 110% for mandatory counseling by an independent person who would be ensuring that the woman wasn’t being coerced and had facts presented to her and not just the clinics high pressure sales team...the same way other elective surgeries are handled ,,, plastic surgeons are supposed to make sure that women aren’t being forced to get a breast augmentation for instance.. There is no doubt that there are hundreds of thousands of couples that would gladly pay for doctors visits and delivery and even a small amount for better food or an apartment upgrade if they could adopt the child.
I just re-read my post and I want to make it a bit clearer ,, an abortion clinic is a business ,, mandating that women must be steered away from purchasing that businesses product (dead babies) is not going to fly... I agree with the result but I think it needs to be presented from the medical/ethical perspective by making it a TRUE informed consent issue.
