Two people were killed and four were wounded in a shooting at a town supervisor's meeting in eastern Pennsylvania, a county official reported Monday.

The shooting broke out shortly after 7:30 p.m. ET at the Ross Township building in Saylorsburg, about 75 miles north of Philadelphia, Monroe County Emergency Management Director Guy Miller told CNN. A suspected gunman was in custody, and the wounded were being taken to various hospitals nearby, he said.

If it follows the normal pattern, the shooter will be some local whack-job that everyone knew should have been locked up a long time ago, and nobody will be able to give you a good explanation of why he wasn’t.

I have some very choice Class III Firearms - full-auto, select-fire, suppressed - purchased 2001-2006, and the background checks were only 2-3mos, and appropriate $200 tax stamps.

I’d imagine I could pretty easily get ahold of just about any weapon with or without Background & Tax Stamps routine; being very careful in the process, under the radar. Happens all the time.

Doesn’t say if he’d purchased/owned legally.

Then again, it could be perfectly over-the-counter “Bump-Slide Fire Stock” enabled:

Had time to empty his “long gun” into the building, then return to his car for a pistol - wouldn’t have happened had someone been carrying in the building to begin with.....

PA Ping!

If you see posts of interest to Pennsylvanians, please ping me.

Thanks!

Thanks lightman for the heads up

Apparently the township was seizing his property because of all the junk he'd accumulated. (Cited as a public health and safety hazard).

3 dead, 4 wounded in shooting at Ross Township municipal building

Hoke said Newell has been removed from his home Thursday because of issues related to the lack of sewer service on the property. There was nothing on the agenda of the supervisors meeting related to his property.

Hoke noted that Newell had arrived at the meeting in a car with Texas license plates. Police were also working to obtain a warrant to search the car and obtain the rifle allegedly used in the shooting.

The handgun that Newell allegedly used was recovered from the scene by police.

For more than a decade, Newell has been in a dispute with the township over the property, which was littered with cast-off building parts, junk cars and other debris. Newell said in an interview at the time the items were like a museum collection.

Court records show the township obtained an $8,000 judgment against Newell in district court. The nature of the township's lawsuit against Newell is unclear in court records.

“..a massive rounding up of all existing guns on the municipal level, and harsh, mandatory sentences for anyone possessing a firearm. ...”

Clearly this retard needs to understand one thing:

If that happens, all bets are OFF and it’s open season on him and those that support stripping away our rights.

He needs to look in the mirror and ask himself if he’s that brave - AND that stupid.

Just Curious....did the Township own the property, or did Newell own the property - as in “private property”???

In a previous article, Newell said he couldn't afford septic hookup fees.

"If I lose this property, I have nowhere else to go," Newell told the Pocono Record in June. "What they're doing to me, what they've been doing to me for so long, it's wrong."

On his Facebook page, Newell said he voted for President Barack Obama but was upset with his administration, citing the President’s failure to close down Guantanamo Bay and the continuing federal crack down on medical marijuana. He also posted an image on his page in support of the Second Amendment, along with a lengthy note opposing gun control. From your link:

On his Twitter page, he tweeted in support of a petition to “eliminate armed guards for the President, Vice-President, and their families, and establish Gun Free Zones around them.”

In a comment at Mother Jones last year, Newell wrote: “if you bring an AR15 to a public meeting & parade around with it you should go to jail I believe in the second amendment, but there is a difference between the second amendment & terrorizing people!”

Interesting, isn’t it?

So he’s a gun guy, yet not... he’s an Obama guy, yet not...
