82 lawmakers ask for end to ban on gay men donating blood
The Hill ^ | 08/05/13 | Ramsey Cox

More than 80 lawmakers have called on the Obama administration to allow gay men to donate blood.

The lawmakers say the administration should change what they say is an "outdated" policy.

Eighty-two lawmakers in the House and Senate signed on to the letter, including Sens. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.), Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.). Enzi was the only Republican to sign the letter.

They said Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius should re-evaluate blood donation criteria that ban gay men from donating blood for life.

How about leprosy, syphilis, gonorrhea, MRSA, tuberculosis,? Why do they want us to only get AIDS?

I’m an 11 gallon donor. If the Red Cross allows HIV-infected blood into the system then I’ll stop donating. And so will a whole lot of other donors.

We should have learned this lesson from France.

When you ask the question, “How stupid can you get?”, the left keeps redefining the limits.

BTW: I’m aware of the recent studies on HIV blood donation and the statistical results. If you believe Wikipedia and the left you’ll believe anything. Better safe than sorry. And don’t tell me only a few people will get contaminated and infected. One is too many.

So we should also open up the blood donations for people who have been to the UK, Africa and all sorts of areas....???

How about people who have had blood borne parasites, and any and all STDs even if they are in a management phase of treatment or have an incurable disease....

Why is it so important that queers give blood? Especially when they are carriers of AIDS.

Yep. It’s insanity. There’s a very, VERY good reason why the ban was put into place in the first place. As I recall, the AIDS virus could be transmitted before it could be detected by blood tests. In other words, there was no way to ensure donated blood was free of the virus. At the time, I recall people who needed transfusions were getting the AIDS virus from donated blood.

Now, if they can prove donated blood is 100% safe (which I very highly doubt), then maybe the ban could be reasonably lifted. If not, then it needs to stay in place. These jerks who signed the petition should be the FIRST to receive donated blood from active homosexuals. Me, personally? I don’t want contaminated blood so some stinking politician can feel satisfied with themselves (for being all tolerant and diverse).

The fudge packer’s disease, AIDS, is back on the rise and commie liberals want these disease maggots to pollute our blood supply.

Just more of the war the government is wagging on the average citizen.

I grew up in a rurual area and a high school classmate lost her mother to HIV due to a Tainted Blood Donation in the early 80’s....

My Brother was a cured cancer patient, and he couldn’t give blood either.

There is no case on record of cancer being transmitted by blood donation to my knowledge. Yet there is plenty of proof HIV can be given.

Beagle8U: “Those lawmakers should be forced to sign a card stating that if they ever need blood they can only use queer blood.”

Yep! If the blood from queers is 100% safe, then why shouldn’t they use it exclusively? No. They’d rather have innocent children (and adults) who need surgery catch AIDS from a tainted transfusion.

I would be in favor of this if all the blood donated by homosexuals was identified and targeted only for the use of Congressman, Senators, their staffs and White House personnel. Those people should be required to use blood donated by homosexuals. No other donated blood should ever be available to them.

Other people could use blood donated by homosexuals if they chose to.

Why is it so important that queers give blood?

I've wondered that myself. I suppose the answer lies somewhere in the area of what makes it so important that they be "married," as opposed to joined by civil union. They don't want any asterisks in the playbook.

It's the Orwellian, leftist supported technique of controlling language to control conceptualization of difference.

One has to wonder if, when he was undergoing his heart replacement surgery, Cheney would have opted for blood donated by a gay man.

Perhaps blood banks can take blood from gay men and have it labeled as such. They could allow the blood recipient the option of using it or not. Oh, and make its acceptance mandatory for Members of Congress and gay activists.

Enzi, huh?

He must be getting some pressure from either a family member or someone who has some “skeleton-in-a-closet” info on him.

??

I hope not.

I am supposed to donate a kidney sooner or later, I guess I’ll refuse any blood (not that it should be necessary) if this happens.

VanDeKoik: “They dont care where they get it or from whom, and they have the STD infection rate to prove it.”

Now, what a minute. You can’t write that! We aren’t permitted to mention that filthy homosexuals have a much higher incidence of AIDS and other STDs, just like we can’t say young, black males have a much higher crime rate. Haven’t you learned there are some truths that may never be spoken?

(yeah, that’s sarcasm)
