Secretary of State John Kerry has announced a policy change with immediate effect which allows the State Department to process visas for same-sex spouses in the same manner that it considers the application of heterosexual spouses.
Kerry made the announcement at the consular visa office of the U.S. Embassy in London on Friday.

I wonder... how does one “prove” that one is homosexual to the State Department?
Say I am from Mexico and I have a friend who is an American Citizen. He wants to help me immigrate to the US. Also, suppose we are BOTH HETERO-SEXUAL ( not homosexual ).
All he can do is “marry” me and I am on the road to legal permanent residency status in the US.
After I come here, we can eventually “legally” get a divorce.
What kind of safeguards does America put against this?
Nice to see John Kerry taking care of the important things first at the state department. Maybe next he can investigate why American and Canadian bacon are different. What a joke our country has become.
If you are the spouse of a U.S. citizen, your visa application will be treated equally.

The same safeguards that exist against “traditional” sham marriages. Interviews of both parties (separately), background checks, etc.
