Raising the dead may soon become medical reality. According to critical care physician Sam Parnia, modern resuscitation science will soon allow doctors to reanimate people up to 24 hours after their death.
At some point, everyone's heart will stop. For most, this is when they begin to die. Doctors succeed in very few cases at bringing the clinically dead back to life. However, more patients could be saved if medical professionals put existing knowledge about the treatment of cardiac arrest to better use, argues critical care physician Sam Parnia, 41, who is leading a revival of research in this field at the Stony Brook University School of Medicine in New York.
When Parnia was a student some 20 years ago, a patient he knew well died under his care. It was a key moment for the young doctor, who has since sought to understand and fight the process of death.
SPIEGEL: Dr. Parnia, in your new book on resuscitation science, "Erasing Death," you state: "We may soon be rescuing people from death's clutches hours, or even longer, after they have actually died." That sounds a lot like resurrection. Is this a serious claim?
Parnia: In the past decade we have seen tremendous progress. With today's medicine, we can bring people back to life up to one, maybe two hours, sometimes even longer, after their heart stopped beating and they have thus died by circulatory failure. In the future, we will likely get better at reversing death. We may have injectable drugs that slow the process of cell death in the brain and other organs. It is possible that in 20 years, we may be able to restore people to life 12 hours or maybe even 24 hours after they have died. You could call that resurrection, if you will....

Note to self: Grab Zombie preparedness kit
They can say it can be done, when they’ve done it.
And here is Lovecraft’s original work, Herbert Smith- The Reanimator:
And yet. Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead...
The soul isn’t going to hang around.
Unfortunately, so far all those so resuscitated have exhibited an overpowering appetite for the flesh of the living; scientists are working this out even as we speak.
Miracle Max: He probably owes you money huh? I’ll ask him.
Inigo Montoya: He’s dead. He can’t talk.
Miracle Max: Whoo-hoo-hoo, look who knows so much. It just so happens that your friend here is only MOSTLY dead. There’s a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive. With all dead, well, with all dead there’s usually only one thing you can do.
Inigo Montoya: What’s that?
Miracle Max: Go through his clothes and look for loose change.
I found that to be a very funny movie.
that brings into discussion the concept of how long the soul dies stick around. Diffferent religious beliefs have a range on that
Thanks for the movie poster. My thought also.
“As Coroner I must aver, I thoroughly examined her.
And she’s not only merely dead, she’s really most sincerely dead.”
I will just say that I have my doubts.
Person death occurs before death of individual cells, which is why it is possible to resuscitate people after their heart or breathing stops. However, cells begin to die soon after person death, and once cells die, there is no bringing them back. The process of rigor mortis is a sign of cell death, where the motor proteins become locked after the cell depletes its energy. Brain cells use more energy than other cells, so they use up their stores very quickly and die within minutes.
I have taken a few courses in first aid, and they always teach the brain starts dying after 4 minutes.
Sometimes in very cold places or under cold water as long as 30 minutes , but bringing back the brain dead doesn’t sound too bright to me.
So they will automatically become democrats?

From the article: "We may have injectable drugs that slow the process of cell death in the brain and other organs."
Obviously the headline was going to say “back from the dead.”
No copywriter can resist that.
The reality is that there is no “back from the dead.” Death is that which is final. If someone is resuscitated, that person was NOT DEAD.
“We may have injectable drugs that slow the process of cell death in the brain and other organs.”
That won’t work when the heart is stopped.
Ding ding ding! We have a winner!!!! Hahahahahahahah!
The story doesn’t make sense. If they had such drugs they would have to inject them in the first 4 minutes. If they inject the drugs in the firt 4 minutes why woiuld they wait 24 hrs to save the body.
I guess you could say they were repairing it with operations for 24 hrs. This could work for young accident victims , but for us old codgers why bother.?
If the heart isn’t beating these “cell death preventing” drugs can’t get to the cells. So even if this becomes possible the person would have to be in a hospital or have cpr started quickly.
>>The soul isnt going to hang around.<<
Isn’t that what Democrats are? Soulless?

Thanks. I was sleepy/slow last night. :)
